On 20th of September 2007 history was made online when The Bureau of Engraving and Printing unveiled the new $5 bill on www.moneyfactory.gov/newmoney.

This was the first time paper money was to be unveiled first online and Wii-5 really came through for the organisers at the bureau. It became a state of the art production and was witnessed both by officials of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, US Treasury, Federal Reserve Board, the US Secret Service and journalists.

One thing is certain, the US government is determined to stay several steps ahead of the counterfeiters who have continued to try and destabilise and cheat economies globally through the ages. The new $5 bills are considered to be smarter, safer and more secure than the present bills. One of the things about the present US $5 bank notes is that $100 counterfeits are made from them by bleaching off the printed "$5" on the bill and replacing it with $100 and viola a new but fake $100 bill is born. Well no more of this easy money for the "money changers", with the new state of the art security features it will become virtually impossible for the bill to become an easy pun for them. The new $5 bill is so well done that you will know you have a 5 dollar bill in your hands it's virtually screaming its value out to you if you only look.

The new bills will come into circulation in 2008.

The current admistration has definately moved a "lot-o-money" in various re-designs. How many times in the last seven years has 10s and 20s been re-designed?

JazLive,

The prevalent problem issuing authorities have to deal with has to do with counterfieting. In order to keep up with these bad eggs a lot of constant change and new technology is regularly being applied.
