I have always been a fan of sports games and the wii gaming console offers some great games in this genre, and first person shooters have always been fun for me, but when it comes to the Wii there is a collection of titles that I think exemplify what is fun about the system and are challenging to both children and adults alike. Mario and Friends

The Italian brothers and the collection of friends have been satisfying gamers with outstanding game play and story lines for generations. Even my dad, in his mid sixties, can recognize Mario in whatever game might be his newest incarnation. But of course for me, growing up right in the middle of the video game revolution, there is no bigger icon than Mario himself. To me he represents the Super Man of video games, instantly recognizable and forever likeable. So what does he have to offer on the newest Nintendo system, and will his titles be among the best Wii games?

Super Mario Wii Games

Right now, not including the Virtual Console titles, there are seven titles out for the Wii featuring Mario. These games include adventure titles, racing games, and sports games. He is featured playing baseball, driving a racecar, as well as being the center of attention on a virtual board game. All of these games have received favorable reviews, and Mario is represented in the best Wii games available.

The bottom line is that if you are looking for a game that is fun, classic, instantly recognizable and sure to be on of the best Wii games available, look for Mario on the cover. While some love Wii Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock I personally think the name should be changed to Wii Guitar Hero III: Legends of Suck. I played this game and can not for the life of me see what anyone would find interesting about it. Being a musician and having played bass, guitar and keyboards for over ten years I can not see why anyone would waste their precious time on such a silly game when if they spent the same amount of time actually practicing a musical instrument they could play the songs they are hearing.

Get a Real Guitar

Wii Guitar Hero does emulate guitar playing fairly well, but there is no gain by wasting hours and hours on this repetitive boring game. If players spent as much time with real guitar in the hands as they did with a controller in Wii Guitar Hero they would be hammering our chords and playing real songs in no time. Guitar Hero is actually detrimental to learning how to play as it offers nothing other than wrote memorization and some what timed responses to the music on the screen. This is great and all, but there is no musicality to Wii Guitar Hero and personally I think that that is the most enjoyable part of playing an instrument.

I know many people will disagree with me, and this article surely will not slow any sales of Wii Guitar Hero, but when given the choice of paying over two hundred dollars of hard earned money for this game or getting a new guitar, I think people should really look at that as an option. Even though I have signed up with a Wii downloads membership site and get all my Wii downloads for free, I don't waste my time on this game.

The one thing I can say about the game is that it shows people that playing an instrument can be fun, and in addition it teaches them some value of how hard it is to really play. Unfortunately, most people do not take the skills they learn from Wii Guitar Hero and apply them to the real world. There would be a lot more musicians out there, and even better for me a lot of people who respect what real musicians do if these people took what they learned from Wii guitar hero and applied it to the real world. While everyone thinks that being Eddie Van Halen is easy, try doing it for real.

Put down the controller and pick up real guitar to see how hard playing a solo with feeling, passion, and accuracy really is. I bet dollars to doughnuts that ninety percent of the people that play Wii guitar hero can not play a real guitar. Try it sometime :)
