Wireless Baby Monitor Tips

It is every parent’s nightmare that they put down their baby for a nap in the nursery, then go about other things about the house, only to return to find the baby missing or hurt.  This can lead to constant worry and a heightened stress level that can make it difficult to relax or sleep without having to check every few minutes to make sure the baby is okay.  In this case, technology can come to the rescue in the form of a wireless baby monitor.  A wireless baby monitor allows you to hear, and sometimes see, everything that is going on in the nursery from your location elsewhere in the house, giving you the freedom to let your baby sleep without having to worry about something terrible happening.

Two Way Communication

Most wireless baby monitor devices allow for two way communication, similar to a walkie talkie.  This can prove very useful in using your voice to soothe your baby from a distance as you work your way back to the nursery or in talking an inexperienced significant other through a procedure such as changing a diaper.

Special Functions

Many models will have a variety of extra functions that may seem extraneous at first until you have a need for them.  Take the vibration and mute functions, for example.  You may find yourself in an area where you are unable to hear the audio or have to mute it for some reason.  The vibrating function will alert you of any sounds above a certain decibel level or any large movements, giving you another level of warning in case something happens.

Video Surveillance

While not limited exclusively to keeping an eye on your baby, there are many models on the market today that include an integrated camera, which allows your wireless baby monitor to function as a rudimentary surveillance system. This can be very useful if you have a baby that is proving adept at escaping from the crib or a second while who has a tendency to help him or herself to the sibling’s toys.

Some newer models even allow for infrared video monitoring, which acts like a night vision camera, allowing you to continue monitoring even when all the lights are off and your baby is peacefully sleeping.

Parenting

While a baby monitor can give you a great peace of mind that there are no catastrophic happenings befalling your baby while you are in the kitchen or the yard, they are no replacement for a responsible parent.  A wireless baby monitor will allow you to get some work done or relax while you are safely assured that your child is sleeping, direct parental supervision remains vitally important in the safety and well being of the baby.
