Wireless Hidden Camera 101

Think you might need a wireless hidden camera? They have a multitude of uses and no longer are difficult to set up and use. Previously, using a spy cam meant you had to hook up the camera, run the wires through the walls and hope they weren't seen and then get those wires to a receiver and pray that you never have to move the camera for any reason or you have to go through the entire process again and after a few moves, your camera may or may not work.

Not so with wireless technology.

There's nothing wrong with making sure your home and business are as safe and secure as possible, and a wireless hidden camera set up makes it very easy. With a wireless set up, you decide where you want your cameras, usually four to start with, and you place them around your home or business. Each camera will report back to a receiver which converts the signal from each camera into a picture. The receiver hooks up to a desktop computer, and if you want you can easily hook up a quad which will split your one screen into fourths and allow you to see the action on all four cameras at once.

An even simpler type of wireless hidden camera is one that uses an SD memory card and stores the recorded video to the SD card that's built right into the object the camera is in. This eliminates the need for the receiver! Here's an example picture of what's built-in to the back of this alarm clock.

The old sytle, wired spy cameras are usually a little cheaper on your pocketbook, however, they lack the versatility of their wireless cousins. You can't put a security camera that needs to be hardwired just anywhere you like and longer cable lengths can be degrading to the picture and/or sound. Wireless security cameras do not experience any of these issues. As you can see fromthe photo above, an alarm clock like this can be moved from room to room and is a complet video system! Also, many wireless security cams have night vision capabilities that allow them to film very well even in low lighting.

Sometimes a hidden camera doesn't even look like a camera. Some are hidden in objects such as books, stuffed animals, clocks, and even boxes of Clorox wipes. There's another SD card camera like the one above that is a hidden camera air purifier. Common everyday objects that are actually housing wireless cams doing an exceptional job taking care of your home and business with their all seeing electronic eyes.

The peace of mind you can get by having video surveillance with hidden cameras installed makes having a security system worth it for most people. Additionally, if you travel on a frequent basis, you can install a motion detection DVR card that will allow you to log into your wireless network from any Internet connection and monitor your home from the road.
