To some people, the idea of a using a wireless spy camera is sneaky, and probably a little bit sleazy.  Evil nanny's, cheating spouses, and nosy landlords all come to mind.  To me however it sounds kind of cool in a gadgetry sort of James Bond kind of way.  The kind of stuff Q would dream up for use in a quest to stop the next evil mastermind bend on destroying the world.  To each his own I guess.

Low Light Spy Camera Specifications

Make sure, you consider the environment in which your camera will be functioning. If the lighting is not that good, than your going to want to pay attention to the cameras LUX specification. This is a measurement of the cameras ability to produce quality pictures in lower lighting conditions. When it comes to LUX, the lower the number is the better. A rating of .1 is pretty good, while a number of .03 or lower is excellent.

Color vs Black & White

When looking for spy cameras, there are a few things you should keep in mind.  There are of course color, or black and white cameras to choose from.  Now don't just assume, that the color cameras are the best choice.  They are almost always the most expensive, but black and white spy cameras usually have better resolution to compensate for the lack of color.  Some items may be more distinguishable from a color camera than a black and white model.

Security Camera Resolution

Camera resolution is a specification we should all be familiar with.  At least if you've bought a television, LCD, plasma, computer monitor, or digital camera in the past few years.  Resolution is a measurement of the number of lines of detail the camera can capture.  The more resolution, the clearer and sharper your captured videos will be.  Any spy camera that has a resolution greater than 350 lines will be quite good.

Wireless Camera Receiver

Every wireless camera, needs a receiving unit to make it work.  The receiver, is in effect, the middle man between your camera and your recording device.  Not all cameras come bundled with a receiver.  Sometimes it's an extra additional cost.  When pricing out cameras, be sure you know what comes with the one your buying.

With so many wireless gadgets around these days, it's important to make sure they don't interfere with each other.  If you have no other wireless gadgets where you plan on using your camera then this is likely not an issue.  Although wireless signals from your neighbors could reach your home, depending on how far they are away.  So, if you have cell phones, wireless routers, sling boxes, GPS devices, cordless phones, wireless printers, or some other wireless device, you should check what frequency it works on.  The best thing then, is to shop for a camera that uses a different frequency.  If you can't find one, then it's likely worth doing a test.  Buy one, bring it home and run all your wireless gadgets at the same time and see what happens.

Also, be cognizant of the maximum transmission power of your camera to it's receiver.  And, if it can transmit through walls and other barriers in your home.  Once again, you may have to just test this out in your home to see how well it works.

Now for the James Bond sort of stuff.  Think about where your going to use your wireless spy camera, and how you want it disguised.  It's amazing, the number of everyday household objects your spay camera can come disguised in.  Teddy bears, lamps and clocks are just a start.  Q would be proud of the creativity that goes into hiding a camera these days.  Just use your imagination.
