Wireless Surround Headphones
Wireless Surround Headphones are truly a thing of beauty. I was always someone who liked to stay up until the wee hours of the night. I started researching these headphones about six or seven months ago. There were times when I would feel the need to watch a movie at 2:00 AM, but couldn't do so because the other people living with me would make a big stink about the noise. And if you turned down the volume, you have trouble trouble hearing the dialog, which forces you to turn on the subtitles. Now, I don't know about you but I really do not like having words flashing across the screen while I am watching a movie. It's just too distracting.
You might be wondering, what are Wireless Surround Headphones. Essentially, they are headphones that do not require cables or wires to transmit a signal from the source. Surround Sound Wireless Headphones are designed to create an experience that mimics a surround sound speaker setup. They are usually equipped with some sort of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology, like Dolby Headphone or SRS Headphone. With this technology, the Wireless Surround Headphones are able to process Dolby Digital, DTS, or Pro Logic II audio streams. A typical headset will also include rechargeable batteries and a charging stand.
There are certainly some advantages and disadvantages of Wireless Surround Headphones.
One advavantage is the brilliant sound. As technology improves, these headsets just sound better and better. The higher end models can really pull off the virtual surround stage quite well.
Another advantage of Wireless Surround Headphones is that they give you the freedom to move around without being confined by cables. This brings up another point, no cables. No cables to get in your way. No cables to trip over. This allows you to wander into another room and still enjoy the wonderful music you're listening to.
A third advantage is privacy. You can crank up the volume and it won't distract anyone. At the same time, the noise your kids make, screaming and yelling, while they are playing won't bother you one bit!
So what are the disadvantages? The audio coming from your Wireless Surround Headphones can become staticky or distorted if it is not receiving a good signal. It may even drop out if you wander out of range. Also, these headsets typically cost more than the wired counterparts or even the standard stereo wireless headphones that do not offer surround sound. Lastly, dealing with batteries or forgetting to recharge the headset may be a nuisance.
All in all, the advantages definately outweigh the disadvantages. As long as they are in your price range, the other disadvantages can be easily overcome. Just don't wander too far from the base and remember to put them back on the charging stand when you are done!
