Do you have enough gold?

  • I've got more gold than I know what to do with. I can't fit it all in my bank.
  • I'm doing fine - I can afford what I need and have a rainy day fund.
  • I'm flat broke. I need to do some serious farming.

There are lots of ways to make fast cash in World of Warcraft. Here are a few specific methods that work well, and some ideas on how to improve your earn rate. If you apply these properly you will see your bank account begin to grow, unless of course you're off spending your cash on new gear upgrades, enchants or gems. On to the tips:

1) If you're going to farm by killing mobs, pick locations with multiple types of items. This benefits you in more than one way. First, you won't be as prone to experience 'dry streaks' of drops like you would if you're farming for a single bigger item. All the smaller drops will even out much quicker and provide a steady stream of income for you.

Secondly, you'll be less susceptible to fluctuations in specific markets. If you're farming a specific item and all of a sudden that market bottoms out, you'll be up a creek. If you're farming mobs that drop different types of things, you'll be ok even if one of them suddenly drops in value. You can bank the affected stuff and sell it later when the market recovers.

2) Capitalize on the seasons. As I'm sure you know, there are lots of seasonal and special events that take place in World of Warcraft. An example would be the Halloween event or the Brewfest. While these types of things are going on, stock up on anything that isn't bind on pickup that might be of interest to people later. Often there are consumable, food or beverages, or patterns that are only available during that specific event. Later, when they aren't available, you can sell them for a hefty profit.

One instance that you may have heard about is snowballs. There were a few people that bought up plenty of snowballs during the winter event, and then sold them throughout the year at a good markup. If you can identify other opportunities like this, you can turn some foresight and patience into cash.

3) Use trades and barters. There are inevitably things that you need in the game, whether enchants, crafted armor or weapons, or gems cut. Unless you have lots of medium to high level characters, you'll be sourcing some of them from other players. This will probably cost you money. Instead, see if you can work out a deal. Trade your skills for those that you need.

Cut a gem in exchange for an enchant. Enchant a weapon in exchange for some healing pots. Better yet, work out some permanent arrangements - agree to cut all of someone's gems for free in exchange for all the pots you need crafted. Of course, the doesn't need to include materials (and probably shouldn't), but just getting the work done for free will make a difference.

Also, if you can trade items or craftable mats, you don't have to buy them in the auction house. More importantly, you don't have to sell your mats in the AH. This will translate into big savings because you aren't paying a percentage of your sales in tax. Again, the best option is to set up a long term relationship rather than trying to find a deal every time you need something. Set someone up as your metal supplier, or herbalist, or whatever.

Hopefully these tips on how to farm gold in World of Warcraft will prove useful. Do you need gold for an epic mount? Do you need to fill your gear with epic gems? For more tips on getting rich in WoW you can check out FarmForGold.com or read some of the articles listed below.
