World of Warcraft Mods & Addons

Once you get the hang of playing World of Warcraft, it probably won't be long before you start getting frustrated by some of the interface. You want to be able to move faster, double-check information easily and save on mouse clicks and keyboard taps.

That's where WoW Mods come in. Mods, usually referred to as Addons, for World of Warcraft are developed by other players and they are designed to customize the Warcraft User Interface. Using them allows you to get certain tasks done more quickly, lets you have all of your resources immediately to hand and they can make you a better player, make the WoW screens easier to look at, and they can even help you level faster and exploit places like the auction house more easily to line your bags with more gold.

There's a ton of different WoW Addons available so I've set up this guide to get you started exploring what some of your options are.

What type of Warcraft Addons Are Available?

There's a huge number of different ways that World of Warcraft can be modified for your needs. There are mods for fonts, the auction house, maps, stats, etc. In fact, you can completely change the User Interface of WoW with addons if you really want to.

With so many different Addons to choose from, I couldn't possibly cover them all, but there are some very popular ones that lots of players find useful so let's just take a look at a couple here to help get you started.

Where possible, I link to the official website for the mod, but you can find all of these at at any of the download sites listed on the right. There are more details about each Addon and what it does on the download pages.

Recommended WoW Addons

Titan Panel - Titan Panel creates a horizontal bar that gives you a ton of information and stats. You can use it to deploy other plug-ins and it comes with its own built-in set that will show you ammo counts, how much room you have left in your bags, money counts, memory usage, location coordinates, etc.

Auctioneer - Auctioneer lets you view a ton of info about virtually any item in the game. You can see current buy and sell prices, maximum stack size, what professions use it, and whether it can be found on quests and, if so, how many quest locations there are for it.

Cartographer - Cartographer is one of the many map mods available for World of Warcraft. It helps you manipulate the World Map in a variety of ways, including transparency and position and it gives you a variety of data about battlegrounds, coordinates and unexplored regions, etc. The photo at the right shows some of the menu options for Cartographer.

AtlasLoot Enhanced - Atlas Loot lets you browse Bosses loot tables . It shows full item tooltips, drop rates, and it covers every loot table for every boss, every item set, PvP Items and items for every reputation faction. You can also allow items to be chat linked and to use the dressing room. Use it as a standalone feature or have it intergrate with the Map Mods, Atlas or Alpha Map.

This is just a smal sample of some Mods that I like. Want More? Check out some of my other Favorite WoW Addons

How to Install Warcraft Addons

The video here shows you step by step what to do to install your Mods once you've downloaded them, but it is pretty easy, so let me just quickly review.

You want to unzip the addon file (ends with an .xml or .lua extension) and drop it into the Addons folder. The Addons folder is located in the Interface sub-directory in your World of Warcraft program files.

Once the Addon is installed, open World of Warcraft and at the left bottom corner of your Character Selection Screen you'll be able to see a button that says "Addons". You are ready to roll!
