Alongside the mythical gold dupe hack, one of the most sought after hacks for World of Warcraft is a WoW stat changer. And just like the gold dupe hack, it doesn't exist. They are nothing more than a scam either to get money out of your, or to mess up your WoW account.

The stat changers that are available and actually do something only change stats on the client side of the game. What that means is that you can see a change of numbers on your end, but nothing has actually changed on Blizzard's servers. It's basically like photo-shopping a pimple off a photograph of a supermodel. She still has the pimple on her face.

Stat Changer Changes Nothing on Server

Why these WoW Hacks Can't Work

I think it might help if I explain why these types of hacks can't exist in the first place. Basically when you play WoW, there are two different aspects to the game's program, the client and the server. The stuff that resides on your computer is the client-side. Everything else is on Blizzard's servers and it is their servers that you log into when you play the game.

All of the stats for your character and the game you are playing are actually stored in a database on Blizzard's server. So in order to have a legitimate stat changer that actually changed your stats, that would require hacking into Blizzard's servers to change the info in the database. This could not be done with a $30 program that you buy online. It would have to be done manually by someone who knew what they were doing. And just incidentally, it would also be breaking the law! Hacking into someone else's server is illegal.

When it comes to World of Warcraft, there's a big difference between things that break Blizzard's terms of service and things that are actually illegal under US law and the laws of other countries.

For example, buying gold or a character that is already power leveled breaks Blizzard's terms of service, but you aren't breaking any US or international law by doing that. These are just the terms that Blizzard has set for playing their game. The only consequences for breaking the TOS is being banned from the game. Stat changers on the other hand would require hacking Blizzard's server and that isn't breaking TOS, that's actually breaking the law. The consequences of that are jail.

Try botting instead of hacking

So hopefully this will help you understand why some "hacks" are possible in WoW and some are not. It just depends on what the hack does and where it does it. If it can function on the client-side of the game program, then it may be legit.

For example, honor bots such as MMO Glider are real programs that auto-play in WoW, but that activity takes place on the client-side of the game. It basically just automatically runs your keyboard and mouse controls. Stat changers and gold dupe hacks, etc. though don't exist at all and the programs masquerading as them could possibly harm your computer or your existence in the game since many of them tend to be keyloggers used to gain passwords, etc.

If you've been wondering about gold hacks as well, get the run-down on the WoW Gold Dupe Hack before spending any money.

If you just want to automate a lot of tasks in WoW, you can easily get your stats up by using a bot like MMO Glider. It can be used for all kinds of tedious grinding tasks such as healing, gold grinding and it can bot honor as well.

Excellent article. I think that's the best description I've yet read on why the hacks won't work. By the way, my kids have used Glider. It works great until Bliz bans your account (which has heppened to them.) Blow yourself to a leveling guide (like Zygor's.) It's much safer.

Thanks Greg. Glider is definitely risky. Not worth the risk for me. I like my account. I prefer using a guide to get a leg up.

Great article! It's always good to see an article that exposes the WoW stat hack program as the scam it really is. I also have put too much time into my account to use Glider as well. Guides all the way!
