Imagine Lewis Carroll in the 21st Century
63Lewis Carroll and Alice Liddell at Christ Church
Playing Lewis Carroll
How amazing would it be for Lewis Carroll to find himself in the 21st Century and discover his written works had been reproduced on an MP3 CD?
As a mathematical lecturer at Christ Church, Oxford, from 1855-81, Lewis Carroll evinced an interest in new technology, in particular the latest photographic equipment which enabled him to gain some recognition as an 'artist'. One can imagine that today he would be just as keen to investigate the potential in computer technology for facilitating his efforts in writing and the visual arts.
Would he approve of an audio version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland? I have no doubt that, if he were alive today, Carroll would be absolutely fascinated by the concept of digital books and how they bring another dimension to his creations.
I can visualise Lewis Carroll listening to Oxford Storypods' unabridged audio of his Alice story on an iPod or similar MP3 device. He would not only enjoy every minute of it but also appreciate that some of his poems and prose had also been recorded on this CD
Alice in Wonderland & Nonsense Verse and Prose is available on an MP3 CD for only £9.95 (UK only - add £1 P&P to non-UK countries) or it can be downloaded for £4.95 at http://www.oxfordstorypods.com/ . The CD can also be purchased from Amazon.
Various reviews describe this audiobook as charming, excellent and almost perfect. The voice of 'Alice' is praised for its youthful freshness and intelligence and actor Bill Moulford's interpretation of a number of the eccentric characters received positive comment.
It is Bill Moulford who took on the role of Lewis Carroll in a recent storytelling session at Chapter House shop in Christ Church. Carroll created the story of Alice's Adventures Undergound for Alice Liddell, one of the daughters of the Dean of Christ Church College. In the photo above, Bill, as Lewis Carroll, poses with Meg Wilcox who makes a very charming Alice Liddell in her Victorian style dress.
Further information about the audiobook, reviews and the actors are available on http://www.oxfordstorypods.com/ where an audioclip can be heard.
