Wood Wall Shelves
71Wood is the Preferred Material for Building Wall Shelves
Not only is it classic but it's strong which is why wood wall shelves tend to be so popular and there is a great variety available. You can buy wood wall shelves painted or for a basic look they can be unfinished. Durability and strength are the qualities they share.
Before you buy your wood shelf, think about the function you want it to serve. You'll need hard wood if you intend to put heavy items along your shelves. Soft wood will suffice for shelves holding light objects. Decorative items are often displayed on floating wall shelves. Pine is a good example of soft wood that would work well. Soft wood is appropriate if the wall shelves will be engraved.
Choosing the Wood Type
Almost every type of wood is strong so whatever choice you make should
be fine. This strength is the reason wood happens to be a great choice.
A university degree is not required to know the different types of
wood. Whichever you purchase will be suitable. It is quite enough to
learn about the varieties of wood that nearly everyone uses.
Soft
wood types include Pine. If you are a novice and will be building your
wooden shelves on your own, Pine is a reasonable choice. Pine isn't
hard to use since it is a soft type of wood. Pine can dent easily which
can be a negative trait. If you plan to place sharp cornered items on
the wood wall shelf this makes it less then your best option.
Hardwood
types are abundant. The different types are Oak, Walnut, Mahogany and
Cherry. The choices for furniture are generally Maple, Oak or Teak of
which any will work well.
The majority of people buy ready made
wall shelves so they don't have to worry about all the choices. Treated
or painted wooden shelves are the kind you should look for. Your
shelves will stay protected if treated.
Make Sure It's Real Wood
Be sure that you are buying true wood and not immitation wood. MDF and particle board are not real wood. They are sufficient choices as well as cheaper. All the same, they won't be as strong or have the same life span as wood. Simulated wood wall shelves tend to be less durable and chip more easily. This alternative in materials will look distinctly less beautiful. For an elegant style go with wood. For resilience, beauty and strenth, choosing wood wall shelves is the best choice.

My husband just put up wood wall shelves for his collection of whiskeys. They look really beautiful with the specialty glasses as well.
