If you have ever found yourself the subject of this gravity you will be inspired by many of the websites and artist I will mention in this article. This first site takes a look at the history of pyrographic tools and petty much covers it all with illustrations and examples of pokers used before electrified tools were invented.

The next stop about the History Of Pyroraphy. There you will find a brief rundown on woodburning and other art forms. Another website that offers a little more detail on the subject is linked here. Notable Artists Who Take This Craft To The Extreme

There are ways to think about the craft of woodburning that start with the boyscout who is trying to earn a badge for achievement and, continue with artists who want to express themselves with a different medium. This craft has been around for a while and runs a gamut of style and quality that is unsurpassed by these modern day artists.

Listed below are some top pyrographic artists for you to take a gander at. They are in no particular order, just highly skilled and notable. They are an inspiration to this craft and lend merit beyond the boyscout. Most will find these artist's work awesome and sometimes unbelievable. There is no way for me to cover every pyro-artist, but these folks definitely have much to share.

The Artistic Ladies First

Kathleen Marie Her work in wildlife art is detailed and creative. She has a great website that will keep you looking and yearning for more. Click here to take a look.

Nedra Dennison She also does wildlife but her style is quite different than the work of Kathleen. Take a tour of her website by clicking here. Be sure to return to this page so you can view the work of...

Dawn Southworth This woman jumps off the traditional path with a flare all her own. She takes the craft and applies her skills with mixed media that is both inventive an appealing. Check it out here.

Some Of The Male Gender are doing with this craft turned art form. Take a look this artist from Shenzhen, Peoples Republic of China. His work is traditional but extraordinary.

Ken Li is so skilled that his work often does not appear to be done in pyrographics. Look for yourself, his work on basswood has the feel of drawing with ink, totally amazing.

The next artist is one that I truly admire for his technique and media mix. He works on wooden matchsticks that have been glued down to create a page of texture and then does his woodburning. This man must have some extreme amount of patience.

Angelce Miskov is taking this craft to the max with the work he does. This is a must see to believe. Then come back and introduce yourself to the work of another artist who hales from the USA though he grew up in Europe.

Erik Brush Pyrographics is just one of many mediums he delves in. His style is out of the ordinary and better seen than written about. When you get done there be sure to view the work of this guy.

David Krieder has a magic touch with the hot pen. His work is gentle, soft, mystical and magic all folded in to a gifted man's hands. The women who are often subject of his work look so good they almost dare you to keep gazing. This site is well worth a long viewing. When you return you will want to take a look at my last pick. He is by far not the least. The artwork created by

Peter Savo who was born in South Africa, covers much more than wildlife. Be sure to look at all the work on his website so that you can get a feel for the brilliant execution of his self taught skill in woodburning.

The Inspiration From Others

No artist starts out as a master. It takes years of practice and study to develop and achieve all that you would like in any profession. The thing about working in the art field is that no art form has exacting guidelines. Art is truly an experiment in self expression. This article was written with the idea of giving anyone interested in pyrographics an open end field trip into the world of pyrographic artists who have pursued the craft to outstanding achievements. I hope that it can be an inspiration to all who read it.

You might also want to read another article I wrote about woodburning. It gives you some ideas on how to get started. I have written several articles you might consider viewing also. These can be located by typing in the word pyrography or the word woodburning on my profile page. Read, enjoy and good luck with your craft. Feel free to contact me at any time. C.S. Alexis

I need to get back into doing woodburning. I have not done it since I made a hub about it back in January, but I love it when I do it. I even made a group for woodburning on Flickr and a few people have joined. They are so good and I feel like I am learning from some of the pictures they post on there. Thanks for all the resources on pyrography and I will be checking these out.

C.S. Another great hub. I love your driftwood lizard. Just last weekend my granddaughters and I collected a whole slew of future treasures. All our driftwood finds are sitting in the garage drying. I need to clean them up and play with them soon so I can find their 'inner beings'.

Zsuzsy,

I am happy to hear you are taking the kids out to pick up wood. I think this is great education for them in a very informal way. Good for you! C.S.

SweetiePie,

Winter is coming, not that it plays the big card for your location like it does here in the north. Maybe you will find cooler days to work with the woodburner. You could take it outside on a nice day. I like to work outside. Thanks for reading here. C.S.

I've heard of woodburning but never seen many works before until now with your hubpage, it seems like a great thing to do or get into if sketching and drawing with pencils isn't for you!

I once saw this artist in town and he burnt an image of Elvis into to this piece of wood in under ten minutes, it takes some skill but with practice comes patience!!

Dear C.S. Alexis,

Thank you very much for the kind review. One of my friends had seen it while conducting a web search and mentioned to have a quick read. It is appreciated and was considerate of you to include me among these many talented pyrographic artists. Take care and have a fantastic day! Cheers.

What a terrific hub! Woodburning is something that I have not done but it looks like it would be so much fun. Finding the special pieces of wood would also be a pleasant undertaking. I also like your lizard.

Thank you for coming to read and comment. This is a great hobby. I have been doing it for over 30 years and honestly think it can be addictive. Hunting wood is something I do by habit now. I am always on the lookout for new pieces of wood to work on. You should give it a try, it is very much like drawing but you can not erase.
