The natural benifits of wool
Wool is a truley remarkable gift from nature.
Wool has inherent features and benefits 'grown in' that cannot be duplicated by synthetic fibres. As clever as man thinks he is chemical processes still don't come close to the amazing natural benefits of wool.
Wool is grown on sheep, and is shorn as the sheeps annual haircut. This is beneficial to the sheep and does not harm them in any way. In New Zealand, which is world famous for having more sheep than people (about 30 million at last count) the sheep roam free on lush green pature until it is time for shearing.
Sheep have enjoyed this relationship with man for thousands of years.
Wool is used in many products including carpets, clothing, insulation, and duvets. Wools uses are almost endless and unlike man-made fibres it is completely sustainable, regrowing every year.
Wool is naturally sustainable
As wool is grown by nature it is an obvious choice for creating sustainable lifestyles.
The planet is now in crisis and we must look for truly sustainable raw materials if our children are to inherit a planet worth living in.
Wool is grown in areas where it does not compete with land required for food crops. New Zealand wool is grown in temperate climates ideal for both the sheep and the fast growth of the fleece.
In New Zealand sheep are grown on large farms where the numbers of sheep (often 20,000) allow the world most carbon efficient harvesting and processing. New Zealand wool scouring is highly efficient. New Zealand only has wind, natural gas and hydro electricity. There is no coal burning or nuclear power at all.
Large areas of the country are protected as nature reserves for the protection of the many unique birds and plants.
The many benifits of wool
Wool has many incredible features that nature has built in...
Wool can absorb moisture and not feel wet. This makes wool ideal for clothing and indoor textiles. Wool effectively works as a natural air-conditioner absorbing and releasing moisture from the atmosphere. This makes wool great to wear, cooling in the heat and warming in the cold.. It also makes wool great for carpets and rungs.
Wool is anti-static. Because wool retains moisture it does not give off static shocks that people experience wearing nylon or polyester. It is a natural product. For man to duplicate these features synthetically requires added chemicals and high energy processes. Wool simply has static control grown in by nature.
Wool is Fire Retardant Wool will not melt and will naturally self extinguish if held to a flame. This remarkable feature makes wool safer than any other fibre known to man. The US military use wool for all undergarments by law. The last thing you want is your clothing melting into your skin.. What is your family sleeping in?
They are growing more wool! But they are not making any more oil to produce nylon or polyester or polypropylene.. The sheep in New Zealand are happy at work turning grass into wool for the benifit of people.
