The following is a review of websites that promise you can work at home and make supplemental income.  Is there truth to the claims?   Let's take a look...

Mystery Shoppers needed!

I've seen this ad too many times to count.  It promises you money if you go to certain stores purchase an item and promise to tell about your experience.  It is used in is used in a wide variety of industries such as retail, restaurants, financial institutions, convenience stores and gas stations, service providers, manufacturers, department stores, travel and entertainment, etc.

Some mystery shopping companies ask that you have access to the Internet so you can rate your purchasing experience on line.

How can you tel if it's bogus?  A real mystery shopping company would never charge you a fee to provide the service.  Mystery shopping opportunities  that are supported by DemoZilla, MSPA, Sassie and Violation are said to be ethical companies.  I have posted the link below.

Taking surveys from home

You have to be careful on this one.  Sometimes the surveys are nothing more than advertisements that want you to subscribe to a free trial that will cost you after 30 days.  Typically these are found on websites like CashCrate and Inbox dollars.  Surveyhead and greenfield on line have more comprehensive surveys form actual marketers who want to find out how their product is doing.  Once you sign up for these, you have to keep on top of them.  Survey invitations are sent through e-mail and usually is on a first come first serve basis.  If you are not within the first 500 or so to respond you will not be eligible to participate in the survey.

Telecommunication

Some companies are looking for people to call others for bill collection or other services. Some companies require that you come on site once in a while while others require you to live within a certain distance away from the office.  Companies like WAHs ( Work at Home success) have a blog site where on line job opportunies are posted.  The site has been linked below.

Online tutoring

Companies like Sylvan and Tutor.com  are looking for E-structors to help kids with their homework form home.  If you think you are smarter than a fifth grader then check out the links blow to see if you qualify.

Virtual assistant

A virtual assistant is someone who has experience in the clerical field. There is a call for individuals who could provide clerical support or creative input. There are several companies that could use on line clerical support.  They are listed below

Home based agent

A Home based agent is someone who collects customer information and places it into a database.  You may be expected to do sales and pay a processing fee for a background check.  Some websites listing opportunities are below.

Awesome hub! I must say, I am a Mystery Shopper. I found the job online and luckily for me it was legit. I've also worked from home on the phone in the past, after answering an ad in the newspaper (as a uumm... well, 'phone operator', in a manner of speaking. Not a job I speak too openly about, but it was VERY good money! *L*) And now, I'm a Telephone Research Interviewer - which means I call and ask people to do surveys. The company I work has initiated a work-from-home program, so once again I will be working from home using the phone.

Basically, what I'm saying is that there are legitimate work from home jobs out there, you just have to be careful and do some research. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is and if there is an exorbitant fee asked for upfront, it's no doubt a scam. Good luck and happy hunting!

Many people want to work from home these days and it is good to know that there are legitimate opportunities out there. Don't forget to look into the many legitimate network marketing companies like Mary Kay and Emergency Information Services, etc. Many people work these (on the side) to earn extra income and the few who work it really hard can earn large amounts of money.....even cars. It all depends upon your discipline as no one is looking over your shoulder and you are not punching a time clock. You determine your own fate. Personally I like that as apparently you do also. Thanks for this hub.

Mystery shoppers have been around for a long time. You see them on craigslist quite often. I know of people that have done the shopping thing and got paid. You can't quit your job but it was easy money.

This has been a great hub. I tried working with Coastal Travel (which I found online) but it just didn't work for me. But now I have these great travel vacations that I could sell or give away. Trying to find the best way to do that. Any suggestions? I've just this month started as a stay-at-home-mom, I was a teacher. I'm staying at home to be with my son. I'm going to be a facilitator with the University of Phoenix, but it doesn't pay much. So I'm on the look out for online work. I just found mystery internet shopping. Does anyone know about this? I've completed a job and they need a W9. I want to know how reputable they are.
