What's included under workers compensation benefits?

Workers compensation benefits differ in each state. Some have broader more liberal benefits available to workers while some are more restrictive less broad. All seem to address these major topics:

  • Medical Benefits: When a worker becomes injured the first thing a workers compensation policy does is take care of the injury. Typically there is no deductible or cost to the injured worker for this benefit. However you must check with the individual state for details.
  • TTD - Temporary Total Disability: This is an income or lost wage replacement benefit for the injured worker when his injury has caused a total disability, he cannot work, and the injure is temporary or he will be returning to work. TTD is generally paid as a percentage of the workers normal wage. All rules pertaining to TTD are lined out in the workers compensation benefits of each state.
  • PTD - Permanent Total Disability: When a worker has suffered an on the job accident that has caused a permanent injury or illness that prevents the worker from ever returning to work or earning some form of living it is generally called PTD. The PTD benefit provides compensation to the injured worker for this disability.
  • PPD - Permanent Partial Disability: This condition is when a worker has suffered a permanent disability that would not preclude them from returning to work however that may have reduced his capacity or ability to work in some fashion. Such as the loss of a body part. The PPD benefit compensates the injured worker for his loss.

These are the three main benefit topics addressed in all workers compensation insurance policies.
