The PC (and Mac) game World of Warcraft the Burning Crusades is an expansion to the popular World of Warcraft game.

World of Warcraft is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing game. Millions of people around the world, using their computers, World of Warcraft software (from Blizzard Entertainment), and an internet connection play World of Warcraft together.

World of Warcraft is set in a fantasy setting. The overall world is called Azeroth. Various races (humans, orcs, gnomes, trolls, night elves, blood elves, dwarves, tauren, draenei, undead) live on three main continents. Players use magic and combat abilities to solve quests, battle against each other, and advance their characters in this world.

The Burning Crusades expansion adds many things to the original game. New races, professions, quests, battle grounds, instances, and a new continent have been added with the expansion pack. The player level cap of 60 has been increased to 70 in the Burning Crusades.

The most important addition of the expansion pack is the new continent, called "Outland". Outland features a huge new land mass for players to explore and adventure in. Outland has new monsters, new factions, new cities, new quests, new gear, flying mounts, and an entirely new end game set of instances.

An instance is a specific area that players enter as a team to take on increased odds above normal questing. A player team will have an instance all to themselves. Instances have greater difficulty, and greater rewards. To get attuned (qualified to enter) for a top-tier Outland instance requires a combination of questing and reputation typical of the previous WOW top-tier instances.

The expanded player cap is also a vital part of the Burning Crusades expansion. Players at level 60 had no upward path (other than seeking better gear) before the expansion. With the new top level increased to 70, players are able to level again, as well as work on their gear and their reputation.

Flying mounts are a huge addition to the expansion. Once they reach level 70, players can purchase a mount that flies through the air. Previous mounts were land bound. The flying mounts only work in the Outland continent. Some areas in Outland are only accessible by flying mount.

The opening of Outland's new cities has all but left the previous cities desolate. With most players focusing on leveling and questing in Outland, old cities such as Ironforge and Orgrimmar have far few players in them now.

Quests abound in Outland. As with the old continents of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, a player can load up on quests in Outland. Quests rewards are better than ever, with gold and gear rewards that dwarf the rewards of the old continents.

The Burning Crusades expansion has extended the World of Warcraft game so much, it's almost like an entirely new game. But this brings up the question: how will Blizzard Entertainment top it?

  • Encrypted Text: Subtlety gets its 15 minutes

Every Wednesday, Chase Christian of Encrypted Text invites you to enter the world of shadows, as we explore the secrets and mechanics of the rogue class. This week, we talk about what Ghostcrawler has to say about Subtlety in the future. With patch 3.3's release nearing, both Assassination and Combat rogues have buffs to look forward to. Mutilate will be a true force in PvE, returning us to our iconic weapons: a pair of poison-soaked daggers. The Deadly Poison change I talked about last week will benefit Combat as well, though not to the same degree as Mutilate. Icecrown and Season 8 are shaping up to be the most exciting things we'll see in WotLK. While much of our focus has been on our immediate future, Ghostcrawler recently shared a huge piece of insight into what we can expect as Cataclysm approaches. Subtlety's status in Wrath (or lack thereof) has been the topic of heated discussion, as it's remained largely "the tree you put 21 points into to PvP". Subtlety hasn't seen much use since the Naxxramas days when Honor Among Thieves was bugged and wicked overpowered. Luckily, Blizzard has a plan for the tree and for the class. Read on for the complete story.Continue reading Encrypted Text: Subtlety gets its 15 minutesFiled under: Rogue, Classes, (Rogue) Encrypted TextEncrypted Text: Subtlety gets its 15 minutes originally appeared on WoW.com on Wed, 02 Dec 2009 20:00:00 EST. • A little pre-80 min/maxing can be helpful

Gnomeaggedon has written up a great guide to something a lot of players (including me) haven't worried about at all in the past: min/maxing your gear before you ever hit level 80. Aside from twinking, there seems to be almost no reason to worry much about gear before you hit the endgame -- you can level in almost anything these days, and by the time you hit 80, you'll replace it all anyway. Why bother? But Gnome makes a good point: he says you should put the minimum of effort in to max out your gear's power. Better gear will help you level faster, will help you play better, and I'll even add that it will help you learn your class better; figuring out early on which stats you want to choose over others will be a big help when you are dealing with all of the epics at level 80. You don't have to spend all your time choosing gear pre-80, as most of it will get replaced with regular quest rewards anyway. But it's good to put some thought into it. So how's it done? Gnome's posts have some excellent tips on browsing Wowhead for new gear, using Rawr to analyze where your character's at now, and eventually looking ahead to what's next (I'll throw Gear Wishlist in again, simply because that's helped me out a lot). There's so many great tools out there for choosing gear, and it's interesting to note that they're still helpful even pre-80. Taking a second to check your gear while leveling up might actually make that grind that much easier.Filed under: Items, Instances, Leveling, GuidesA little pre-80 min/maxing can be helpful originally appeared on WoW.com on Wed, 02 Dec 2009 19:00:00 EST. • Guildwatch: "You guys raid like little girls"

Ok Blizzard. We give up. Patch 3.3 can come out now, please. Guilds are cleaning up even the Tribute achievements in Trial of the Crusader, and pretty much everybody is just sitting around waiting for Icecrown to drop. Even drama is taking a break -- with plenty of loot to go around and everyone getting what they want, nobody is actually fighting any more. Where's our crazy ninjas and raiding breakups? We need to get some new progression content, and soon! Way too much "good" drama (including a daring emergency Vent call) in this week's Guildwatch, alongside the usual downed and recruiting notices. If you don't see something you like, you can help: send your tips about drama, downed (hopefully we'll see lots of Marrowgar downs next week), and recruiting news to guildwatch@wow.com. Meanwhile, this week's GW is after the break.Continue reading Guildwatch: "You guys raid like little girls"Filed under: Items, Fan stuff, Guilds, Instances, Humor, Raiding, GuildwatchGuildwatch: "You guys raid like little girls" originally appeared on WoW.com on Wed, 02 Dec 2009 18:00:00 EST.
