World Of Warcraft Maps
62Azeroth, and Outland, the two main worlds that players of the Blizzard Entertainment game World of Warcraft explore and adventure over in the game, are huge and detailed. It is a good idea for a player to know where he/she is. The Alliance and the Horde, the two main factions of the game, have outposts, bases, and cities scattered all over. An unwary player could accidentally waltz right into the opposing faction’s outpost, and have a sudden visit to the Spirit Healer.
There are two in-game maps; the world map, and the mini-map.
The world map is the big picture of Azeroth and Outland. The world map only displays areas the player as already explored. Roads, zones, cities, and geographic features are all displayed on the world map. The world map displays icons for local building and dungeons.
Map coordinates are vital when questing. The world map (hit the M key when playing) does not have an automatic coordinate display. An add-on is required for this. There are several out there, and they mostly all do the same thing: provide xy coordinates for both the player’s location and the location of the cursor. A map coordinate add-on is the single most indispensable add-on a player needs.
Please note that dungeons and instances are not available on the world map, you can only get the limited mini-map view. There are add-ons that contain world-map views of dungeons and instances.
The in-game mini-map is vital for a player when both exploring and when questing. The mini-map offers an overhead view of the area around a character. The mini-map has limited zooming, in and out.

The mini map offers a few vital features.
- The name of the region (or city) that your character is in
- The local geography
- The location of your character appears as a silver arrow pointing in the direction (N, E, W, S) you’re current facing
- A tombstone icon to indicate your corpse when dead
- Nearby party members appear as blue dots. Arrows point to far-off party members.
- Some classes have the ability to detect humanoids, beasts, or demons; these detections appear on the mini-map as dots
- Some professions can detect resources, such as mining nodes or herbs to harvest; these detections appear on the mini-map as dots
- Completed quest turn-ins appear as gold dots on the mini-map
- Day or night, and the current server time
- A “You have mail” icon indicates when there is unread mail for the player
Printed and/or online maps of Azeroth are available. There are map posters and printed atlases for those who want see Azeroth and Outland off line. There are also many on-line sources for maps, some maps are even interactive.

- Breakfast Topic: The next Caverns of Time encounter
Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Breakfast topics, Instances, Factions, Wrath of the Lich KingIt hasn't shown up on the Beta servers yet, but it's probably still one of the most eagerly anticipated instances of Wrath of the Lich King, especially for us old timers. I'm talking, of course, about The Culling of Stratholme in the Caverns of Time. The nice thing about the Caverns of Time is that you can do stuff like this, sending people back to visit pivotal places, people, and things in the past without creating a whole new game. Despite the stumble in Mount Hyjal, when we appeared to go as tourists instead of agents of the Bronze Dragonflight to combat the Infinite Dragonflight, the Caverns of Time has been solid and well-liked, with 5-man instances that allow you to experience some important and intriguing lore and give you a definite story to follow in the instance, one that can be done in well under an hour. Certainly, this model has lead to a lot of fans, and a lot of people hoping we'll see many more CoT dungeons to come. There's even rumors (or wishful thinking) that we'll get another Caverns of Time raid for Wrath, possibly The War of the Shifting Sands. Whether it's true or not, I can't say, but the caverns definitely have room to expand. As the custodians themselves explain, passageways to new times could open up without warning, sending us off on new adventures. What times, places, and people would you like to visit via the caverns? - Wrath cinematic trailer unvelied
Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Blizzard, Expansions, Death Knight, Wrath of the Lich King Is there anything left to be said? The Wrath of the Lich King cinematic was unveiled to the public earlier today on Blizzard's sites... and it's freaking awesome. The trailer features Arthas, the Lich King, trudging the icy plains of Northrend with the echoing narration of the late King Terenas Menethil, his father. Haunting music, a chilling narrative, and imagery that shows the frightening power of the Lich King is all packed into the short trailer, which can be downloaded in hi-resolution for Macs and PCs. "The truest victory, my son," King Terenas says, "is stirring the hearts of your people." I can tell you right off that this cinematic stirred my heart... and sent a shiver down my spine. Check out the full version over at the Wrath site now. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments - 3 hours ago
