Our hearts break when we here about children and families suffering from the shame of poverty. We wish there was something that we could do to help but often don't know how or what we should do.

That's why there are ministries such as World Vision Chicago. A place that seeks out the need and works to fulfill it. They help families and communities by going to the root causes of poverty and injustice and and helping them to overcome it.

A Christian-based ministry, World Vision Chicago shows God's unconditional love for all people and they treat all people equally regardless of their race, gender and religious or ethnic backgrounds.

World Vision is a world-wide ministry changing lives of children all over the globe. The one based out of Chicago reaches out with all of the assets of the World Vision ministry and extends love and hope to the needy and hurting in the Chicago area. They partner with various city programs such as churches, organizations, schools and child sponsors and address local needs.

Since 1995, World Vision Chicago has been making lives better for the children in their communities. Soon, the community began getting involved and individuals and organizations were joining in to sever poverty.

Before long, World Vision Chicago began expanding its borders and outgrew its facilities. Because the people in Chicago believed so much in the cause and purpose of World Vision Chicago, even the public school system in the city donated a 40,000 square foot warehouse so that it could continue to grow.

Now, their work has expanded to serve and partner with over 60,000 people in the Chicago area. the people come from almost every neighborhood in Chicago and across the city's suburban communities.

Programs Offered Through World Vision Chicago

The Storehouse The Storehouse of World vision is a unique program that distributes needed items to families in need. All supplies are new and in unused condition. The supplies include, personal items, school supplies, and building materials. The Storehouse is such a loved project that the member status now reaches over 8,000. These members are both organizations and individuals.

In the 2005 alone, the Storehouse program distributed over $4 million worth of products to those in need.

30 Hour Famine This is a program where the youth in the Chicagoland area group together and fast for 30 hours. Before the date of the famine, the youth will raise money through donors and sponsors to help children suffering from the affects of poverty. Also, the group will go for a full 30 hours without food so that they can better relate to those who they are helping. During the course of the fast, the group will participate in acts of service or are allowed to engage in study. After the famine is over the money is sent to World Vision where it can be put to use where it is most needed. In one weekend the participants lives will be changed as they work toward helping change the lives of others.

Hi Blessed Mommy, what a wonderful hub! I think World Vision is a great ministry and we have sponsored a child with them for a few years. My daughter loves writing to her friend in Nicaragua :)

Yes my dear this is a great hub...very informative and well presented. My take is on the fact that I am of low income and do much to help the local needy in my community..I support the church, the local food bank and the schools with donations of materialsĀ I don't use anymore, crafting supplies and even sewing for plays (customes) I try to always buy a gift for a needy child from the local stores who sponsor them with a note of what they need they want. i only wish i could do more...G-Ma :o) hugs
