Why I made this:

I've been sucked in by a fair share of fancy sales pages and gold-encrusted promises. Aparently I'm a bit gullible, but that doesn't mean you have to be. Heck, simply ariving at this page must say something about your hesitancty to buy from one of these sites.

I want to give you a fair perspective on what's good and what's bad. I'll be updating this hubpage regularly to keep you up to date on the whirlwind of misinformation that is the gold farming guide marketplace.

Also, I run and make content for The Gold Guide. At my site you'll find a regularly updated blog, chock full of the latest and greatest of making gold in World of Warcraft. Check it out if you get a minute.

What I play:

80 Death Knight, 2x 80 Paladin, 80 Warlock, 80 Rogue

I've been playing this game for longer that I've been having sex. Yikes.

To give you an honest estimate, I stood in line at groud zero to pick up the game. November 23, 2004. I still remember the sights, smells and taste of that fateful day. Overworn clothing, body musk, and untended neck-beards abound; you've never such a spectacle.

Some tips for avoiding scams.

It's not always easy to spot a scam. Clever use of highfalutin claims and over-zelous promises make just about any gutter-worthy guide sparkle like gold. Here's some tips for avoiding these charlatans.

(If there's a wowtycoon banner, that's exactly what i'm talking about. 25,000g in two days? Not in WotLK, not ever.) --->

  • Know who you're buying from. Do your research BEFORE you lay down your money for the guide. This is paramount. If you don't know anything about your guide, it's infintely harder to make an informed decision when purchasing it.
  • Take claims made on 'Gold Farming Guide' websites with a grain of salt. Most of these 'hooks' are meant to drag in customers, and sadly, the majority of them get bites. Being objective when reading through sales pages will prevent you from getting dragged down hook, line, and sinker.
  • Avoid any guide that promises "over 500g an hour". I've played this game for nearly three years now and was even the second 80 Death Knight on my server. Only in VERY rare circumstances will your GPH skyrocket like that.
  • Know your rights. Any reputable guide has a 60-day money back guarantee. If you don't think you got the right guide, RETURN IT and keep on truckin'. Not every guide can be the best one, so don't settle 'till you're satisified.

This isn't everything either. Most of 'staying safe' when buying these guides is common sense. Mammoth mount in three days? Not bloody likely. Get a good understanding of what's realistic, and if the features of the guide seem legitimate, follow the steps above and make your decision, but never beforehand.

Scams.

Yeah, don't get suckered into this crap.

They say there's a sucker born every day. Hopefully you're not one of them.

While some of these may seem obvious, there are plenty of sites (like wowtycoon.com) that try to get your money with layers and layers of outlandish claims. While they DO get customers, they shouldn't. Scams of this magnitude should be purged from the internet with a white hot flame.

Scams.

My personal favorites.

Here's a few great guides to get you started. Both a part of my own collection; you wont find a better set of guides anywhere.

Gold-Secrets: A powerful guide loaded with exactly what you need for collecting that fortune you've always been after in WoW. Never has a gold farming guide been so comprehensive and detailed in its purpose: to give you every resource necessary to get where you want to be in WoW.

Dugi's Ultimate World of Warcraft Guide: Truely top notch stuff. A stunning layout of gold farming from 1-80. This is the guide I use and even after two months of farming his starter spots, I've found no reason to move on. I have a feeling I'll be using this one for a while. A fully illustrated review of this guide can be found in my blog.

I has a blog.
