The meaning of a consultant is someone who provides consulting advice or services.  There are many firms who consult Companies, Corporations, Investors and even private consumers on financial advice.  What consulting means, is to discuss or review; which means a consultant can also set up consultancy agents for marriage, medical, environmental, life management and possibly anything that people need some form of advice on.  Many consultancy agencies; proficient and considered an expert, regarding the topics that their agency handles.  However, you will also find many consultancy agencies and agents that may not provide the correct or proficient consultation.  There are many fraudulent consultancies in the world and their goal is to gain your trust and then your money.

A smart consumer, who is seeking a consultancy, should research the one they choose.  Find out if, they have a large clientele or if they have a good standing the business associations; which monitor these types of companies.  Most consumers can find any needed information online; just by surfing the internet.  If you are not secure with obtaining information about trustworthy consultancies online, then ask around your city or town.  Most people either have dealt with a consultant or know of a consultant, recommendations are usually the best route, when finding anything.  When something is recommended, it means that that person has experienced the services or knows someone who has and is satisfied with their experience.

Be ware of consultancies, which are not willing to provide a free start up consultation and are not willing to provide specifics about their agency.  You will also want to research, prior to retaining the services of new consultancies; this does not mean that they do not deserve a chance and that they would not provide a good consultation.  However, if you are not educated on finding and working with new, unknown business, you will not know what to be aware of.  So sticking with a well-known agency, is the best course of action, when starting out.  Many consultants are willing to provide their credentials and clientele count, but this does not provide information, regarding if the client was satisfied with their service or not. 

The main thing is to make sure, that you; as a consumer feel comfortable with your choice and will receive the proper assistance.  Depending on what type of consultation you require, you will need to research further, not all consultancy agencies, can consult on every topic.  You will find that most of them cover a limited amount of topics and some can only consult on one or two, this is very common.  This is when online consultancies are best, there is an array of consultancies available from all over the world and they cover any topic that you can think of.  The only problem, you may encounter is the lack of personalization that many consumers, require.  When receiving a consultation many consumers prefer to meet in person, they prefer to see whom they are working with and observe their environment and behavior.
