Online retailing is a huge business. According to studies, by 2010, some 13-percent of all retail transactions will happen online. This would mean that there will be an expected significant 10-percent increase since 1999. Perhaps, this is the reason why it is becoming easier for some people to find things they can sell online.- More and more wholesalers and manufacturers are considering working with home-based online retailers.

Finding legitimate and legal suppliers is not easy. You need to be aware of several middlemen claiming to be real wholesalers. As much as possible, verify the background of the wholesalers you are dealing with. You may refer to one of the worldwide brands review I have written to differentiate a middleman from a real wholesale supplier. One excellent way to find real wholesale supplier is to attend tradeshows and gift shows. Each exhibitor in a trade show is screened by the responsible trade association, so everyone knows they are legitimate.

Attending trade shows will expose you to a wide number of wholesale suppliers. When you attend a tradeshow, make sure that you make some supplier connections. Trade shows mostly consist of booths of genuine wholesalers and manufacturers hoping to grab some new accounts. Though not all exhibitor in a tradeshow may be willing to work with an online retailer, there are some who are more than willing to talk and give you the kind of deal you need.

Since exhibitors are paying a lot of money to be able to participate in these shows, they do not want the general public to attend. What they want is their target market- retailers. If you are planning to attend a tradeshow, make sure that you prove to the tradeshow organizers you are a legitimate retail business. You may want to show them or bring with you these documents:

  • · Business license and a tax ID number
  • · Commercial checking account
  • · Business cards and letterheads
  • · Purchase order that will prove your company buys in their specific industry

Aside from wholesalers you will meet at tradeshows, there are also several manufacturers from overseas who maybe willing to work with you. You may use some good search engines like Alibaba.com and Global Sources.com to look for these overseas manufacturers. Remember these certain things you need to consider when looking for overseas manufacturers:

  • Find out if the overseas manufacturer has an office or a representative where you reside. Importing products is very complex. If an overseas manufacturer has an office in your area, arranging documents and stateside support will be less stressful.

  • The search engines you will be using are advertising-supported meaning anyone can list their products anytime. There is a possibility you will encounter scammers and fake merchandise alongside the legitimate manufacturers so you have to be careful. Several of these search engines have gold suppliers that were screened and filtered. These are the manufacturers you would want to deal with.

Finding legitimate suppliers is not easy. You have to exert extra efforts to make sure you will be dealing with legitimate and verified suppliers
