Would Jesus Discriminate?

If I hear one more person say: “God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve” I swear I’m going to puke all over my “2QT2BSTR8” t-shirt. I don’t know who thought that clever line up but that and Girls: “I’m strictly dickly” or Guys: “My ass is ‘exit only’” have permanently and irreparably destroyed the possibility of a serious conversation with an opponent of homosexuality.

This is not a viewpoint. It’s a bumper sticker slogan. Surely you can do better than that.

The fight for homosexual rights inevitably comes back to what God thinks of the subject. Some times we reach this stage quickly – other times, it takes a bit longer. First of all, I’m an atheist, therefore, your God argument is falling on deaf ears.

Never mind the fact that everyone does not believe; and that it is not a requirement in the United States to do so. Never mind the fact that many do not believe in the same God. Never mind the fact that many do not believe in any deity at all.

What burns me most is people like that Phelps character. Of all the things that are wrong with this world, this bum decides he’s going to spend his entire energy focused on homosexuals. Luckily, from the last images I’ve seen of him recently, he won’t be around much longer to bug us. Though, he has corrupted the minds of many others already, hopefully they will just disappear into obscurity once their witless leader kicks the bucket.

Well, I’ll stop daydreaming now and get to my point. Today I visited WouldJesusDiscriminate.com that is owned and operated by the Metropolitan Community Churches. The video on the home page is very compelling. In an even and calm tone the man captured in this video clip reminds us how the Christians have been wrong in their support of slavery, women not being allowed to vote and blocking interracial marriage.

While reviewing their website, I saw a lot of good points made in support of homosexuals being viewed favorably by Jesus, in some instances, I think they made somewhat of a stretch to define what was pointed out in the Bible to be Jesus’ acceptance of homosexuality.

Still, it would appear that much research was done to ascertain Jesus’ true feelings on the subject and for those of you out there who are gay and are looking for some affirmation that Jesus is not a proponent of the LGBT community, this is a great website for you. I think it is also a great website for the Christians out there that are misinformed by the masses that they are required to persecute us because we are damned by the Bible.

I am a firm believer that the Bible is completely open to interpretation and that most if not all, can find some way to support their position no matter what that position is.

You make some great points. Unfortunately, a lot of Christians act less like the way Christ taught, and more like the vengeful people who wanted him dead.
