The face is such an important part of our self-confidence. How smooth our skin is and how youthful we look plays a big part in us feeling good about ourselves. Wrinkles are our enemy in aging and we need to fight against them to keep looking youthful. To know how to keep your skin from aging and wrinkling you need to know some causes.

There are several layers to the skin one of which is the epidermis, which is the top layer of skin. As we age the epidermis and its cells change in a way that causes the skin to loose precious moisture. This makes the skin dry out and can cause wrinkles and other aging effects to happen to the skin. Changes not only happen in the epidermis but also happen in the dermis.

The sebaceous and sweat glands are located in the dermis layer of the skin. Sebaceous glands get much less productive as time goes on and therefore less sebum is made helping to cause the dryness in the skin. Sweat glands quit being as prolific as they were when one was younger. This causes more dryness to occur. The other thing that occurs in the dermis is a loss of elasticity and much less collagen is produced. This causes the layers of skin to fold.

Beauty creams and products are much more about protection today rather than just beauty. They are made to protect, replace moisture, lift, tighten, and even fighting blotchy skin tone. The beauty products the replace moisture to the skin or tighten the skin help eliminate or at least reduce the effect of lines and other significant skin problems. Purchase some of them and try them instead of going right to the medical or professional expensive treatments.

Many medical or professional cures are available for the problems that occur with the skin. Glycolic acid peels, shots of botulinum toxic type A, and face lifts are only a few of the cures available. You need to get all the information and references on the doctor and or facility that you want to do this before agreeing to them performing any of these on you. The shots is one thing I could not bring myself to do because the fear of needles.

The more bad habits you have the more you can affect your skin and you health. If you smoke your skin will age more rapidly due to lower oxygen levels due to blood vessel constriction. You can also increase the manufacturing of free radical due to the nicotine causing the rise of carbon monoxide levels. This can very definitely cause aging of the skin.

SPF protection is a wonderful thing. SPF can protect you from the harmful effects of the sun. You need to use sunscreens having a SPF of 30 or higher when you are outdoors working or enjoying recreational activities. Make sure to use them every 30 minutes to keep up the protection though. Other items have SPF protection added to them today too. Foundation makeup and other cosmetic applications have it too. You would be smart to use them all for the greatest benefit.

Make sure you put enough moisture in your body too by drinking water. Plain water is what you need to hydrate your body and skin. Six to eight glasses containing 8 ounces of water is the daily dose recommendation. You will see a big difference in your skin if you aren't doing this. Put less wrinkles in your life by taking care of your skin.

Our skin is our biggest organ and we need to start taking better care of it. You make some good points here. I think SPF and flushing toxins out of your body by drinking plenty of water are the best most obvious ways to deter wrinkles.

I have to agree with you on the Botox thing--not only is it a needle issue, but the neurotoxin protein that is used to make Botox is one of the most poisonous naturally occuring toxins in the world! To me it doesn't make sense to inject something like that, no matter how minute of an amount it is, into my body. I do too much to maintain my health, to purposely inject toxins into it.

Awesome hub!

It would be better to list creams that do work and for which problems, than providing the general information you do.   See my HubPage for my experience with proceedures.  The best compound I've found for fine lines is Matrixyl.  It minimized the between the eyes lines.  As for Botox,  it's no different than many natural pharmacuitcals we use.  In the wrong doses and with misuse, it can kill.  I tried it for lazy eye.  One eye turnes in a bit.  I found that it didn't last long enough, 6 months with a gradual reverting in the last month, for the $800 it was costing my insurance.  It just didn't seem like a responsible use of insurance resources.
