Cost of Wrist Tattoos

The cost of any tattoo can vary widely depending ont he artist, the shop, how busy they are and if you decide to use a flash design or get a custom design tattoo. However since wrist tattoo are typically smaller in scale then say a full sleeve tattoo it typically is less expensive. Wrist tattoos can run from $50 up to $200 dollars.

Time Commitment Of Wrist Tattoos

Most wrist tattoos are done in one compelte sitting lasting a few hours at most. They are againt ypically smaller in size and less work to ink. Once the design is transfferred it is pretty quick to complete the tattoo.

Pain Level Of Wrist Tattoos

In terms of pain wrist tattoos can be pretty high ont he scale. Since the wrist bones and very close to the surface of the skin there is not much fatty tissue for theneddle to go into. Therefore wrist tattoos like foot tattoos tend to be more painful.

Other Downsides

The only other downside to a wrist tattoo other then the pain level is that it is not easily hidden. Of course if you wear long sleeve shirts all the time this is not much of a problem and if you get an inner wrist tattoo it is less visible. However fora first tattoo most people advise against a wrist tattoo just becuase it is so hard to cover it up. If oyu are already in a career or employed ina job where tattoos don't matter then this realy isn't anything to consider. However, if you are ina conservative work environment you might want to carefully consider if a wrist tattoo is for you or not. In the end the choice is yours and if you are commited to a wrist tattoo and realy want one then go for it.

My first tattoo was on the underside of my wrist. The first time I chickened out bc my tattoo guy kept harassing me about the pain. But, it tickled. Ha. When I told him that, he laughed at me. But my piercer always makes fun of me too, because every piercing he's done has tickled, to include my surface barbells.

i have a japanese symbol on the inside of my right wrist. it hurt a little. in some spots a little more. i think because you have veins right there so its a bit more sensitive. i also have my daughters name on the right side of my neck. suprisingly, that didnt hurt ONE BIT. and it took like 3 minutes to do.

I would wait to get the tattoo on your inner wrist until you already have a couple. I have 7 tattoos and the first place I got mine was my uppper back/shoulder area. Thats one of the best places to start if you are a little scared because it doesn't hurt all that much and you can't see the needle. If you are a little scared of needles I would think twice because all tattoos hurt everywhere. Some more than others but hey it is a needle going into your skin. But if you are really committed then go for it. Do some relaxing techniques...anything that will help to calm you down. I like to have a sucker because it keeps my mind of the pain a little bit, gives me something to do and focus on besides the pain. I haven't got a wrist tattoo yet but that is my next project. Sometime this month I am going to go get one. Also remember that when you get your first tattoo you might want to put it somewhere you can hide it or show it easily. I know a few people who went and got a tattoo and ended up not really liking it, never got another one, and were grateful that it was in a place where you no one saw it. Wait to do the tattoos that are harder to hide until after you've taken the plunge into the tattoo world. Hope this helps!

Lanah  says:

I have a tattoo on my lower back of a butterfly, about 1 yr later i then added the background to it. It hurt a bit,but no tears...I'm considering getting an inner wrist tattoo. I do modeling...so i need one that i can hide; since i already have the back piece done my next one has to be easily hidden...hence why i thought the inner wrist because i figured i could hide it with makeup and certain angles. I hear good and bad about the pain...will it feel close to what my lower back piece felt like? Here's my lower back pic: http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r267/april2486/

Thanks for any advice :)

Hey Lanah-

Thanks for the comment always apperciate when visitors give feedback and information. By the way I have added your lower back tattoo to one of my hubs on lower back tattoos. It is towards the bottom of the page I started a new gallery for it titles User Submitted Tattoos.

You can find it here.

http://hubpages.com/hub/Lower_Back_Tattoo_Design

Thanks for the great pic it looks nice I like the combination of stars and the colors you have chosen.

In terms of a wrist tattoo and the pain level. It can really very from person to person depending on their own tolerance for pain. It is kind of like the dentist some people hate going and state it is painful while others don't mind in the least. Pain is very subjective. I would say if you have gotten the lower back tattoo you could bare a wrist tattoo. You have a prtty good idea of the general pain level. YEs a wrist tattoo can hurt more becuase there is less fatty tissue overall in the wrist as opposed to the lower back. However, you already kind of know the pain level.

Hope that helps!

Natalie  says:

Hey everybody

thanks for the advice. i am really dedicated to having this tattoo, but i am now also considering getting another one first, just to see what the pain is like. so, any ideas of where i can get it? i don't want it on my back or neck, or somewhere that i have to use a mirror to see it. so...any tips?

thanks!

I have a tattoo of a pink heart on the inside of my wrist. It was my first tattoo. Yes it hurt getting it done but not enough to stop me from doing it. On the plus side it only took about 5 minutes to do. I think if that's really what you want, do it. I am so glad I got mine! And just think once you get another one it might hurt less since your first one was painful. I will warn you getting my touch up hurt reallly bad. No kidding! I was almost in tears but I survived and I am sure you will too. Im actually getting one on my foot tonight! Wish me luck!

Hey Natalie-

Wow a two time commentor eh? Don't get people that comment twice very often. Welcome! As for your wrist tattoo and the pain level and getting another starting tattoo the choice is really yours. I always hate advising people too much one way or the other becuase pain tolerance and tattoos are all about personal choice and self expression. I would say if you have your heart set on a wrist tattoo why waste time getting another tattoo somehwere else. Unless you already have a really great idea you are attached to. However, it probably is not a good idea to go and just get a tattoo to get one and to see what the pain level will be. If you really want a wrist tattoo then go and get a wrist tattoo. Obviously everyone's pain tolerance is different but your not going to die from it. Yes painful, yes it might make tear come to your eyes and you might have to bite you lip really hard. But the pain is momentary and there are millions of people that live through it. I am 100% sure you can also. in fact you might find the pain is something you sort of like in a strange way many people do.

Not to rain on your parade if you want to get anotehr tattoo first and you are set on an idea then go for that. But don't just get one that someone else suggests t should be a personal choice of something you want.

Good luck!

But I really love my tattoo(all of them, but especially the one on my wrist), and if that's where you want it, they hey, go for it girl! Sure, it hurts a bit at the beginning, but it sounds like you really want it, and then, you can stand the pain, believe me.. I was so scared when I got the tat on my wrist, but the result are so great.. :D

Good luck with it.. :D

Well, I'm going on the 29th to get m first tattoo done, on my inner wrist of my right hand. It's going to be the astrological symbol for Uranus, outlined in navy blue with a possibly light blue center. Hehe.

I heard tht light colors hurt worse then darker colors...Is this true?

I seem to find that reading about tattoos and all the pain and side effects makes it worse. Here is my advice JUST GO DO IT.

I got my first on my spine, so not even the numbing cream worked (yes i am a sook) i kept having spasms everytime he had to go right on my spine in the cartlidge area.

Hi! I just got my first tattoo tonight. I got it on the inside of my left wrist because I wanted something different. It's a 9 letter word, but luckily, my tattoo guy was able to get it pretty small. I should be able to hide it with a watch or at least a band aid. Since I'm in school to be a teacher, I wanted something I can hide during the schoolday but show off on the weekends. It did hurt some. No tears, and trust me, I'm a cryer. It hurt more in the middle of the wrist because I got it high up so it was on my vein. Don't know if I'll get another one, but he did a great job!

I posted 5 weeks ago about getting a wrist tattoo. I did end up getting the tattoo,I got it yesterday. I was amazing, the pain was nothing like what I've heard. I'm a wuss and on a scale of 1-10 mine was a 4.5 at it's worst. It starts right under where the wrist bends and is approx 2x2. I got myself all worried for nothing, having this one hurt so little has opened my mind to maybe attempting more in the future. Here's the pic: http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r267/april2486/

I am going to have my wrist tattoo finished (hopefully) tomorrow. I'm in my 50's, this is my 3rd tat - my first was for my 50th. The wrist tat is my own design, quite complecated and full of meaning. The 1st session, got my original idea - looked great - easy, not painful, 3 1/2 hours because of the detail.. then it looked horrible for about a week and a half. The 1st week, completely swollen, - looked like I literally had squeezed barbed wire around my wrist. People widened their eyes in horror and scurried away! Looked great when it calmed down, but didn't translate like I wanted. 2nd session 2 1/2 hrs. added to design - much better healing, looks great. And tomorrow I'm adding prettiness with flowers. It should be magnificent and personal when it is completed. Much longer process, but I'm a complecated person, and this reflects who I am! Definitely not a something one should do on a whim. Getting it was fine, caring for it while healing and working, has been a constant process. Must be vigilant for it to turn out the way it should!

OK, so I'm not a tattoo person and I hate needles, but I;ve been pondering over a tattoo for 10 years and I figure that makes it a rational decision. My question is about a tattoo that would basically go on the outside and side of my wrist... thoughts on pain or doability? It seems that in all the pictures I see, the only people with tattoos that do that have their whole arms done - is there a reason or am I just quirky? Thanks

mock  says:

One other quick question - anyone with thoughts that the top/outside of the wrist doesn;t hold ink well? Maintenance?

I got my wrist tattoo done yesterday. Been waiting to get a second one done for ages but put it off. I really don't think it hurt that much, not as much as i had imagined that it would. im not a big fan of needles either, so i got myself worked up about it and nearly fainted haha but it really isn't as bad as people make it out to be. When it was over i was a bit gutted coz u start to get used to the pain and enjoy it a little bit! lol!

My link is a pic of the tattoo i got.

Nicky  says:

I dont think it would hurt half as much if you were to get it on the top of the wrist, as it is more fleshier there than the inside. If you do hate needles then i would say to start with a small tattoo, just to get used to the feeling of it, and then if yu dont like it atleast u wont have to be sitting there for an hour or so! lol

Hey all. I got my first tattoo earlier today. A Butterfly on my hip. And I have to say it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would. It hurt sure, especially the outline, ouch! but not as much as i was anticipating. Could hardly feel the filling in.

I fully want a tattoo on the inside of my wrist, they are lush. But i think i might wait a while and perhaps get some other tattoos before i plough straight into a wrist one, just the thought of the needle so close to the vains. Makes me a bit nervous. But one i WILL get it...ONE DAY!!

I'm planning on getting a tattoo on the inside of each wrist - one medium sized fall leaf on my right wrist and the other may be a green leaf, haven't quite decided.

A little panicked about the pain factor and the idea of a future medical student having a potentially obvious tattoo, but I've heard of med students with full sleeves done. I think it'll be fine.

Please reassure me, pain-wise, people!!! =)

I got a wrist tattoo when I was 19. It was my first, and I honestly didn't consider how noticeable it would be. The design is original, and the shape fit well on the inide of my wrist, so I went for it! If you are going to get one remember to make it small enough to cover with a bracelet, if you think you will need to (and you probably will!). I got mine a bit bigger than maybe I should have since I'm not into big chunky jewelry, but I can hide it with a big bracelet or watch when I have to. It turned out a bit bolder than I thought originally because the first guy messed up the thickness of the lines and I've had to get it touched up twice already, going again soon because the lines are starting to run together. Thanks, man.

Anyway, about the pain, I have no other tattoos to compare it to. But it was bearable, even when I got it touched up. Hurt, yes, but I made it. Go for it if you are sure you want it! Really really sure!!

Do you have any tatoos that you regret? My children asked about getting tatoos and piercings and I've been trying to tell them that they'll regret them. What do you think?

GreatTattoosNow profile image

GreatTattoosNow  says:

First of all I would take into considerationt he age of your children. I would always make them wait until their at least 18 or whatever is the elgal age in the state you live in.

Second I always encourage people to get tattoos that they have spent a lot of time thinking about and something they have always wanted. Not just some silly flash on the wall that was in the tattoo they happened to gow itht their buddies. Instead if they want a tattoo encourage them to save money ad pay for some custom design. This will make the tattoo more expensive and it will force them to work with the artist to design what they want. This will help ensure that it is something they probbly won't regret. You might also try talking to them about what design ideas they want.

I would not just all out say no to the kids becuase once they are old enough they will do it on their own anyway. So instead I would tell them they have to wait until they are old enough and int he mean time help them to work on their design of what they want. Force them to think about the symbolism of the images they are choosing and consider why they are choosing them.

Hope it helps!

Hi all, just wanted to get some opinions of a tattoo i'd like on my inner left wrist... Was thinking of getting in very small writing, 'Semper Paratus' which is latin for 'always prepared'... it's the motto on my family name crest, so a nice nod to my heritage.

The only problem is, i'm in quite a corporate job so i'm wondering if anyone else who has had a wrist tattoo, do you find them easy to cover up? A few bracelets/bangles should do the trick I suppose?

I'm a bit concerned about the fact that my boyfriend has no desire to ever get a tattoo, and my family is against the idea so i'd need to cover it up out of respect. I already have one on my lower back that I got when I was 18- I'm now 24.

Anyway thats all I have to say - thanks guys for all the interesting stories too, keep it up

Hi, me and one of my mates from uni are planning to get our first tattoos done at the same time and i think we have both decided what we want. Mine is a sort of wave pattern and i'm thinking of getting it put on my inside wrist, the only problem is the tendons and ligaments at the base of my wrist are really close to the surface and i'm just wondering if it will hurt like hell. Injections don't really bother me, so will it be a similar sensation in my wrist?

Its definitly being done i'm just not sure if it will look right elsewhere if it doesn't go on my wrist. Also how long does it take on average for the redness to go down when its done on the wrist? Thanks for any reply and i'll post a photo when i get it done

Emily  says:

Okay...I've been thinking about this for a while...(Mostly because I know I want one and I don't want to regret it by getting one to big or in the wrong spot) And I've been thinking about 2....one would be a tiger on the back of my shoulder, Or maybe the back/base of my neck, where I could hide it behind my hair if I wanted. The other style would be thinner and more delicate and would be a more personalized design, Which would go around the top of my left wrist, like a little braclet. That way a watch or real bracelet could cover it. I don't know which to pick, because bothe are really reflective of me.

Emily  says:

I also wondered about pain levels and touch ups. Is it true that tattoos on the back of the wrist need touch ups more often? Do light or dark colors hurt more? And would the wrist (Top and sides) or the back of the shoulder hurt more? I will be forever greatful to any1 who can helo me w/this choice.

I am thinking of getting a tattoo on my inner right wrist for my 18th birthday which is next week. I was thinking something along the lines of a chinese symbol, not sure what i want it to mean yet though! Although i have a very low pain threshold and i am getting quite scared! Does it really hurt?

But I am just wondering can someone please tell me what if feels like? like, compare it to something? someone once told me its like moving a sharp needle across your wrist?

My first tattoo was on my wrist, i stupidly got it done in ibiza and it got infected. It had to be redone once the infection had healed but it still looks shabby and i absaloutly hate it..!! I am going to get something to cover it but cant decide what..!! I also have a tattoo on the back of my neck down on to my back.. i can safely say the one on my wrist was much much sorer..!!

i have been thinking for a few years now about a wrist tattoo, but i am so VERY scared. I am now 22 years old and dying to get a little tiny star on the left side of my wrist. I have had alot of teeth pulled and alot of blood work..and i was just wondering if it is much more painful than that. i know everyone says that everybody deals with pain different, i can deal with after pain but i just dont wanna end up crying while the tattoo person is in the middle haha.. so if anybody does respond to this comment can you please be a person that really cant stand pain, i dont want someone who can deal with pain tell me it doesnt hurt. Thanks !~

Hey! I've never gotten a tattoo before, but I've been dying to get one on my wrist. I really would love a peace dove holding a couple flowers. I'm really nervous about having it done on my wrist, because one of my friends told me that I wouldn't be able to stand the pain, I'm not sure if she was trying to talk me out of it for whatever reason or what, but she has me a little shakey. I don't know how to feel about it, but I'm having someone draw up the picture for me and hopefully I could overcome my fear and get the perfect tattoo that I want.

Hey Allie

I got a tattoo on my foot last week, and it crazy hurt! i was having a chain of 3 medium sized flowers but it was so painful i could only have one done. i kept fidgeting and made it really hard for the tattooist. however, if you have quite a good pain threshold i say go for it. but i definitely reccommend starting with a small one on your foot and if it's ok you can always add to it later.

To anybody else wondering about the pain. Once you get over the initial shock you will be fine. if you have already had a tattoo you will be absolutely fine. I got my first tattoo on my inner wrist andthe outline hurt at first, but that's because i didn't know what to expect. I then went back a week later and got another one above it on my inner wrist and it didn't hurt at all because i knew what to expect. people say the wrist is the most painful place, but i can tell you now that it isn't, for me the foot was the worst. I am not a good person with pain, i hate having needles, people have to sit on me to pin me down for just one tiny injection! so believe me when i say, it's not as bad as you think. Just make sure you have something sugary to eat before you go, because the endorphins that kick in ease the pain, and it will stop you feeling faint. Another tip i can give you is just to breathe. Breathe in when the needle is away from you, then breather out slowly as the needle is touching your skin. don't hold your breath because you will faint. if you are nervous ask your tattooist to take it nice and slow for you. they won't say no because if they do you will have your tattoo done elsewhere and they will lose money.

hope this helps people

xx

Hi,

My parents said I could get a tattoo when I turn 17 which is in 5 months. I want to get a tattoo of a dragon along my inner wrist. But I'm afraid that it will be really noticeable, and also I have a lot of veins there which are really close to the surface. Is a dragon tattoo too big, because I have never heard of anyone getting one along their inner wrist?

i have just recently had my third tattoo done on my inner wrist, it is just a black outline of a star, but am going to get it added to with some different sized stars coming off the side off it. i didnt think it really hurt at all and only took about 5 mins. My first ever tattoo i had done in ibiza and was a rose n the side of my stmach, then my second was a tribal design n my lower back with my sons name in the middle of it.

hey everyone

I want a tattoo for the first time

i never thought I would want one but I had a Traumatic brain injury (TBI), also called intracranial injury, occurs when physical trauma injures the brain.

I was hit by a car crossing the street and was in a coma for three months.

Sense then I had to re-learn everything! (talk, walk, drink water... etc)

the one thing that I always have to tell myself is "you can do it. Never give up."

thats what I want! I want everyone to know they can over come what ever it is that they want.

i had my first ever tattoo yesterday ! i was so scared, but the tattooist who did it was so nice, and stopped when i wanted him too, after the outline was done though, i was fine, having it coloured in feels like your being scratched.

it was an amaizing experience, and cant wait to have my next tattoo. i'll have to think about where though, probably my other wrist !!

tattoos arent that painful, any one could have one !

I just got a skeleton key on my inner left wrist. This is my first tattoo and I wanted it to be on my wrist because of what it means to me.

About Pain: It hurt but was not unbearable. There were spots were it hurt a little more. It felt like burning and cutting, at the same time. I tried to go to my "happy place" but unfortunately the room had some really weird pictures on the wall, so I couldn't concentrate. I have a very high pain tolerance but my skin is really thin, especially on my wrists and I hate needles. So I would recommend to anyone with similar issues to bring their favorite soothing music or some kind of distraction.

It's healing fine but I see some shading around it that makes me worry the ink got in too deeply. This is my first tat, so I really have no clue.

On Hiding it at work: Yeah, it can be done. The hard part is to hide it while it heals. I was told to not cover it with any bandages and let it 'breathe'. I have been wearing long sleeves for now. I am sure it won't be a problem at work but let's just wait 'til those 90 days are up, just in case.

If am not going to get the star done I might get my daughter's name, Eva Jessika, tattooed on my shoulder in fancy script.

looking for a tat on underside of wrist. Have 3 already, but it has been a while since my last. In fact, my last tat is unfinished and because it starts on my hip and leads up to my rib cage, eventually will end up at just below my armpit, I am v. worried about the pain I experienced. I SURVIVED!!!! Dont get me wrong I love it, bit am just a bit worried I will never get it finished. So... my plan is to ease back into having tattos by having a little tattoo on my wrist of my sons name.It shouldn't take long (I hope!!) and perhaps in a few months, be brave enough to complete my main masterpiece. If you are worried about people noticing the tattoo, but only plan on a simple design I suggest going with white ink. Inner wrist tattoos are hard to notice anyway but with white ink its even less noticeable, especially if people aren't explicitly looking for them.

I have one, its a unique color to go with and easier to hide from bosses and parents.

I got a small cross on my wrist and it hurt, it wasn't unbearable but it didn't feel nice either. I think it all depends on your pain tolerance. I'm a big baby when it comes to pain and I always said I would never get a tattoo because it would hurt too much. But, I decided that I wanted to get something that would be special to me, it isn't a big piece of art work but it means a lot to me. I think the wrist is a good place for females to get their first one done. It's easy to cover up and its easy to show off.

hey i'm turning 16 and for my birthday i was planning to get a tattoo on my inner left wrist. it's my first tattoo and it's of this circle type shapped tree with a moon in the back. I' m not bad with needles it's just the whole vein thing is kind of worrying me. I was wondering if anyone could answer my question: i've been doing some surfing of sites and stuff, and read that wrist tattoos sometimes need touch ups. How ofter do inner wrist tattoos need touch ups??

if anyone could answer that it would be great!!

Hey kuss

That symbol is the tree of life, its in every faith and relegion from egyptology to kabbalh, the roots are supposed to mean your sub concious mind (underworld in egyptology) the trunk is meant to mean your mind at present your beliefs etc(human world) and the branches are meant to mean your higher conciousness(the heavens).I love this tat have it myself on my inner wrist best of luck with it :)

Thanks for all the comments guys. I am getting my 3rd and 4th tattoos done next week, one on each of my inner wrists. They will be my sons names with a design around them. Was nervous but after reading that if you have coped with one on your spine then you should be fine with your wrists. I have one on my lower spine, a triabl crow designed by myself, and I love it. Hurt a bit but worth it.

I just got my first tattoo yesterday. It is on the inside of my left wrist.

I was extremely nervous about the pain but when he started I realized it wasn't that bad. However, some areas were a lot more painful. Overall it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be.

Hi I was thinking of getting a wrist tattoo.......I've read all the comments and all. I already have 2 tattoos, 1 I got for my 18th birthday and it's tribal w/stars around it and a big star in the middle and thats on my lower back, the 2nd one I got 4 years later and it is my daughters name and her zodiac sign on my left shoulder blade. I wanted to get Mommy on my inner right wrist but cant decide if I just want lettering or something around it. If anyone has any suggestions would appreciate. Also w/the pain thing I know ppl r different but w/my lower back one it didnt hurt that bad but on my shoulder blade I was bawling! lol. So wondering if the wrist would be like that. Thank!

Wow, I am so glad I came here. Lots of different thoughts about the inner wrist tattoo. I have been DYING to get an inner wrist tat on my left wrist. I want either the Ohm sign or something from the Bhagvad Gita in sanskrit. I just can't decide on the Sanskrit option because most of the phrases I want are too long for my wrist, and I want something small (I will be starting a pretty corporate job soon and I don't know what their policies are). The other tattoo that I want is on my right shoulder blade, it's a picture of a lotus with a hand coming out of it I think.

Hey,

wow this entire thing has been totally helpful, for my 18th i want to get a heart, cross and anchor (love, faith and hope) about 2cm in shape each and just a black outline, i've had a lot of trouble finding a similar picture or anything like it, help please. I also have zero pain tolerence but this is something i've wanted for a long time so i'm hoping i will be fine.

thanks

Finding the right tattoo design for your wrist can be a difficult task, but it doesn't have to be. Most people run into this problem because they haven't fully thought out the underlying reasons why they want permanent ink on their wrists in the first place. A good place for you to start is to learn why other people get tattoos.

Want to know some of the top reasons why people get tattoos?

I'm getting a tattoo in the inside of my wrist in a few weeks and i have a couple of questions for the tattoo geniuses up in here, since this will be my first one! It's going to say, "Forsan et haec olim meminisse iuvabit" (Latin for "Perhaps some day it will help to remember even these things") with a small cross on the left side. It'll be two lines of text. First I was wondering if someone could describe the pain level in more detail... is it like, repeated bee stings? And is it more pressure or stinging feeling? Also, as far as writing in scripts, how small is it safe to make the writing? Will it disappear altogether if I make it too small?

Hey, just thought I'd share my wrist tattoo experience. I had my first tattoo done 3 days ago, of 3 stars (1 for each of my 3 nephews) and it's healing well.

As for the pain, definately not as bad as I was expecting. Having read this page several times before having mine done I almost psyched myself out of doing it lol, but now I'm very glad I did. I read that sometimes the process can tickle and didn't think that was possible- but parts of mine really did- definately not the feeling I was expecting :)

So if you really want a wrist tattoo- don't let people talk you out of it if it's your first tattoo- if that's where you really want it done, then go for it!

By the way Ellie- for me the feeling was mostly a slight stinging rather than a pressure ( and moments where it slightly tickled, like I said)- and I know everyone has a different pain threshhold- but for me the pain never really hit higher than about 6/10..

Just got my 1st tattoo, a leo symbol on my right inner wrist, it's about 2" x 1". Just wanted to let you guys know about the pain (as I was reading all comments last night and they really helped)...

The anticipation was the worst. I won't lie, the initial pain felt like someone was scratching me, yes it did hurt and my fingernail marks that were left on my left leg prove just that. However, once the outline was done, it kinda numbed the area so once the filling in started, was not too bad at all. I couldn't really feel too much and I know what people mean now when they said 'it kinda tickled', this is true.

The only part that was very painful was when he was going over the tendon, that REALLY hurt but was over before I knew it, and I'm so glad I went through with it.

If you have your heart set on getting a wrist tattoo, DO IT! The pain is not that bad, (I'm a real whimp), I would rate 5-6 out of 10 for initial pain but once the shock was over, went down to a 1-2 out of 10! I'm already thinking about getting another one!!! xx

Hey!

i am almost 17, and i have been wanting a tattoo on my wrist for a wile now. I want a dove. my parents are totally fine with me getting one. My parents told have had several done before; my step dad says the tattoo o n the wrist will hurt because there is less tissue. he suggested that i get one either on the back of my neck (which ive heard hurts way less than any other), ankle, back shoulder, or foot. ive heard the foot tattoo last less longer than any other. i personaly dont like the tattoo for me on the ankle. im stuck between the foot and the ankle. in a junior in highschool, and once i graduate im going into the journalism bussiness. and im pretty sure the majority of jobs associated with this career would prefer tattoos to be covered. either way on the foot or wrist it can be covered but also there are times it cant be covered. on the wrist it can be covered by a bracelet. on the foot if i wear highheals or sandals it may harder to cover. im hopefully getting my tattoo next week. i need some advice!!!!

heyy guys, ok so im 17 and even though I wont be 18 until Nov. I really want a tattoo over the summer. But I go to a really strict Catholic High School (Blah!) But honestly, its going to be my senior year and I really dont care what they think! I really wanted one on my left wrist of the chinese symbol to dream. Ive been pondering this for about a year and I cant think of anything that fits me more so Im comfortable with that decision. I also have a high-tolerance for pain but not so much on needles. I heard that a doctor can prescribe numbing cream and wanted to know if that was true because if it is, itll take my mind off the whole needle thing. Even if he cant Im going to go through with it but Id really like some support! The URL for the design is on the bottom let me know what you think!

I have 14 tattoos, my whole side (including my ribs), both feet tattooed, a toe, a smaller one on my other side like the love handle area, behind my ear, a big one in the center of my back (including on my spine), and many across my stomach below my belly button. I REALLY want a tattoo on the inside of my wrist but I am TOTALLY worried about the pain! HA! Sounds ridiculous since I am so tattooed but hopefully it won't be too bad! In my opinion, the worst ever was my ribs--2 and a half hours of the worst pain ever. It was my second tattoo and I am pretty good at handling pain but MAN it felt like a jack hammer with a fire torch on top. Also, the feet are a little tender since not much fat but handle-able. Wish me luck on my wrist!!

im 17 and probably going to be getting a tattoo on my left wrist- its pretty good size- a heart with wings wrapping around it and my brother Danny's name on top and date of birth/death on bottom. my other brother, sister, and mom are also getting tattoos, i know im young and it'll be really noticable, but its worth it. my brother Dan was skitzophrenic and he commit suicide 3 weeks ago this sunday, so its really meaningful. im kind of concerned about the pain, because im a crybaby =] but mostly i just dont care how much it'll hurt, because i know it'll be worth it.

My first tattoo is on my hip. I got it for my eighteenth birthday. http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/29/l_9 (far shot) http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/19/l_0 (close up) Yes it did hurt, I learned from my recent tattoo artist the bone has nothing to do with it. It hurts because of nerve placement. Say you are extremely ticklish on your sides, it will hurt more because of the nerve placement. But my recent tattoo I got on my inner wrist, my current job doesn't care about visible tattoos. It is still healing but it is good picture. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v454/kiyame/wr-9 It is extremely special to me, it is the irish claddagh. I got it for my heritage as well as to remind myself no matter what troubles I am in there will always be someone there who loves me.

..weeeee..i have three tattoos..i made a rose on my back, more a shaddow of a rose, when i was fifteen..then i got a tattoo- a date that means a lot to me, a day that changed my life- on the inner side of my left wrist..and now, at the age of 22 i got a new tattoo on the left side of my belly- music notes..it means a lot to me too because i'm a musician..people around me don't understand what i see in tattoos and keep asking me stupid questions like: what if you change your mind about the tattoos when you're old?..i don't want to think like that..i love tattoos and i never change my mind about anything..so,all i can say to you all is- if you want to get a tattoo, do it, but make it something important to you..it will be a part of you..

..and, don't worry, the pain is worth it..and it tickles too..i wish you luck..

I just got my wrist tattoo 2 days ago!! I love it! I also have tattoos on my lower back, shoulder blade, stomach/hip, and ankle. I was nervous about getting my wrist done, because I had heard it hurt and felt sort of funny about the veins and thin skin. But, it was really no worse than the others. It had its moments. The closer to my hand it was the worse it hurt. At some points it was a very dull feeling. I am happy with it and can't stop looking at it!!
