However since wrist tattoo are typically smaller in scale then say a full sleeve tattoo it typically is less expensive. Wrist tattoos can run from $50 up to $200 dollars.

Time Commitment Of Wrist Tattoos

Most wrist tattoos are done in one compelte sitting lasting a few hours at most. They are againt ypically smaller in size and less work to ink. Once the design is transfferred it is pretty quick to complete the tattoo.

Pain Level Of Wrist Tattoos

In terms of pain wrist tattoos can be pretty high ont he scale. Since the wrist bones and very close to the surface of the skin there is not much fatty tissue for theneddle to go into. Therefore wrist tattoos like foot tattoos tend to be more painful.

Other Downsides

The only other downside to a wrist tattoo other then the pain level is that it is not easily hidden. Of course if you wear long sleeve shirts all the time this is not much of a problem and if you get an inner wrist tattoo it is less visible. However fora first tattoo most people advise against a wrist tattoo just becuase it is so hard to cover it up. If oyu are already in a career or employed ina job where tattoos don't matter then this realy isn't anything to consider. However, if you are ina conservative work environment you might want to carefully consider if a wrist tattoo is for you or not. In the end the choice is yours and if you are commited to a wrist tattoo and realy want one then go for it.

My first tattoo was on the underside of my wrist. The first time I chickened out bc my tattoo guy kept harassing me about the pain. But, it tickled. Ha. When I told him that, he laughed at me. But my piercer always makes fun of me too, because every piercing he's done has tickled, to include my surface barbells.

Nice. I love the tat pic of the arm stitched to the hand. Beautiful. I've got sixteen tats but never went for the wrist. Maybe I have a new spot to consider now!

i have a japanese symbol on the inside of my right wrist. it hurt a little. in some spots a little more. i think because you have veins right there so its a bit more sensitive. i also have my daughters name on the right side of my neck. suprisingly, that didnt hurt ONE BIT. and it took like 3 minutes to do.

I would wait to get the tattoo on your inner wrist until you already have a couple. I have 7 tattoos and the first place I got mine was my uppper back/shoulder area. Thats one of the best places to start if you are a little scared because it doesn't hurt all that much and you can't see the needle. If you are a little scared of needles I would think twice because all tattoos hurt everywhere. Some more than others but hey it is a needle going into your skin. But if you are really committed then go for it. Do some relaxing techniques...anything that will help to calm you down. I like to have a sucker because it keeps my mind of the pain a little bit, gives me something to do and focus on besides the pain. I haven't got a wrist tattoo yet but that is my next project. Sometime this month I am going to go get one. Also remember that when you get your first tattoo you might want to put it somewhere you can hide it or show it easily. I know a few people who went and got a tattoo and ended up not really liking it, never got another one, and were grateful that it was in a place where you no one saw it. Wait to do the tattoos that are harder to hide until after you've taken the plunge into the tattoo world. Hope this helps!

I have a tattoo on my lower back of a butterfly, about 1 yr later i then added the background to it. It hurt a bit,but no tears...I'm considering getting an inner wrist tattoo. I do modeling...so i need one that i can hide; since i already have the back piece done my next one has to be easily hidden...hence why i thought the inner wrist because i figured i could hide it with makeup and certain angles. I hear good and bad about the pain...will it feel close to what my lower back piece felt like? Here's my lower back pic: http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r267/april2486/

Thanks for any advice :)

Hey Lanah-

Thanks for the comment always apperciate when visitors give feedback and information. By the way I have added your lower back tattoo to one of my hubs on lower back tattoos. It is towards the bottom of the page I started a new gallery for it titles User Submitted Tattoos.

You can find it here.

Thanks for the great pic it looks nice I like the combination of stars and the colors you have chosen.

In terms of a wrist tattoo and the pain level. It can really very from person to person depending on their own tolerance for pain. It is kind of like the dentist some people hate going and state it is painful while others don't mind in the least. Pain is very subjective. I would say if you have gotten the lower back tattoo you could bare a wrist tattoo. You have a prtty good idea of the general pain level. YEs a wrist tattoo can hurt more becuase there is less fatty tissue overall in the wrist as opposed to the lower back. However, you already kind of know the pain level.

Hope that helps!

Hey everybody

thanks for the advice. i am really dedicated to having this tattoo, but i am now also considering getting another one first, just to see what the pain is like. so, any ideas of where i can get it? i don't want it on my back or neck, or somewhere that i have to use a mirror to see it. so...any tips?

thanks!

I have a tattoo of a pink heart on the inside of my wrist. It was my first tattoo. Yes it hurt getting it done but not enough to stop me from doing it. On the plus side it only took about 5 minutes to do. I think if that's really what you want, do it. I am so glad I got mine! And just think once you get another one it might hurt less since your first one was painful. I will warn you getting my touch up hurt reallly bad. No kidding! I was almost in tears but I survived and I am sure you will too. Im actually getting one on my foot tonight! Wish me luck!

Hey Natalie-

Wow a two time commentor eh? Don't get people that comment twice very often. Welcome! As for your wrist tattoo and the pain level and getting another starting tattoo the choice is really yours. I always hate advising people too much one way or the other becuase pain tolerance and tattoos are all about personal choice and self expression. I would say if you have your heart set on a wrist tattoo why waste time getting another tattoo somehwere else. Unless you already have a really great idea you are attached to. However, it probably is not a good idea to go and just get a tattoo to get one and to see what the pain level will be. If you really want a wrist tattoo then go and get a wrist tattoo. Obviously everyone's pain tolerance is different but your not going to die from it. Yes painful, yes it might make tear come to your eyes and you might have to bite you lip really hard. But the pain is momentary and there are millions of people that live through it. I am 100% sure you can also. in fact you might find the pain is something you sort of like in a strange way many people do.

Not to rain on your parade if you want to get anotehr tattoo first and you are set on an idea then go for that. But don't just get one that someone else suggests t should be a personal choice of something you want.

Good luck!

Hey Alex good luck on your foot tattoo. Are you getting one on the top of your foot? ankle area bottom of foot where on your foot? Also what are you getting the tattoo of? I love foot tattoos especially or primarily for women.

Anyway would love to see a pic and I can add it to my foot tattoo page here if you want! Good luck!

Hej Nathalie!

My first tattoo was on my right wrist and since then, 3 others have followed.. But I really love my tattoo(all of them, but especially the one on my wrist), and if that's where you want it, they hey, go for it girl! Sure, it hurts a bit at the beginning, but it sounds like you really want it, and then, you can stand the pain, believe me.. I was so scared when I got the tat on my wrist, but the result are so great.. :D

Good luck with it.. :D

Well, I'm going on the 29th to get m first tattoo done, on my inner wrist of my right hand. It's going to be the astrological symbol for Uranus, outlined in navy blue with a possibly light blue center. Hehe.

I heard tht light colors hurt worse then darker colors...Is this true?

I seem to find that reading about tattoos and all the pain and side effects makes it worse. Here is my advice JUST GO DO IT.

I got my first on my spine, so not even the numbing cream worked (yes i am a sook) i kept having spasms everytime he had to go right on my spine in the cartlidge area.

I got my first tattoo when I was 14. A star on my left leg. I really want to get a second one on my wrist. I was thinking a very small peace sign on my right wrist so I could cover it with a watch. Does anyone know how tattoos can be done with out the black outline? Like the pink star shown.

Hi! I just got my first tattoo tonight. I got it on the inside of my left wrist because I wanted something different. It's a 9 letter word, but luckily, my tattoo guy was able to get it pretty small. I should be able to hide it with a watch or at least a band aid. Since I'm in school to be a teacher, I wanted something I can hide during the schoolday but show off on the weekends. It did hurt some. No tears, and trust me, I'm a cryer. It hurt more in the middle of the wrist because I got it high up so it was on my vein. Don't know if I'll get another one, but he did a great job!
