Writing OpportunitiesThat Really Pay

A look at 4 free-to-join writing opportunities where you make money writing by getting paid for content.

Can you produce content? If you can, you will make money writing. This article details four legitimate writing opportunities that deliver the goods, allowing you to earn money from writing. I've "starred" the opportunities as a way of rating them. (5 Stars being tops.)

Make Money Writing: PrintNPost * * * * *

PrintNPost is definitely worth a look. At PrintNPost, you create blogs (250 words) and articles (450+ words), Google places ads. on your pages and and you make money writing by earning whenever someone clicks on those ads; as well, advertisers may bid to appear on a CPM basis. Both CPC and CPM compete in the AdWords program so that your ad revenue is optimized. You can also boost earnings by doing the usual linking to your PrintNPost articles, so that you earn more money writing.

What I particularly like about PrintNPost is that you can also link to your other articles that appear elsewhere. Some content sites prohibit this but PrintNPost is a flexible publishing platform. Linking to your other articles at PNP is a great way to increase your online presence and boost overall page views and earnings.

Recap: Make money writing by earning on your PrintNPost articles; use your PNP articles to drive traffic to other articles.

Make Money Writing: Triond * * * * *

Would you like to earn money from writing each month? If so,Triond offers you just such an opportunity. You submit original articles and earn on advertising that is placed on your pages. Triond provides a large number (36) of bookmarking sites. Once you join the sites, your article URL is automatically loaded for convenient bookmarking. You make money writing and best of all, earnings are ongoing! You receive monthly revenue and, if you submit on a regular basis, can grow a smaller side-line income. Triond is a revenue share opportunity well worth taking a look at.

My recent article, The Seven Deadly Sins of Salt did very well. If you utilize keywords and incorporate pictures into your articles this is even more effective. Triond really pays off over time.

Rule of Thumb: Keep submitting quality articles, bookmark them, and watch your earnings grow!

  • While Triond article earnings are usually small, their long-term potential offers the greatest benefit. Some of my articles have hit the $50.00+ mark and are still earning each month. This is far more attractive than article mills that insult you by offering $2.00-5.00 for a researched, crafted, proofread and edited 500-word article.

Recap: Triond is one of the legitimate writing opportunities that allows you to make money writing and offers long-term article earnings.

Make Money Writing: Helium * *

Helium works much the same way, offering bookmarking buttons and an About Me page where you can include 3 links to your other sites. Additional advantages are offered via contests and through the Helium Marketplace, which matches publishers and authors. You earn revenue on your articles.

Helium is a mixed bag of tricks. I personally am not impressed with how you earn money writing for Helium. Other, however, others have enjoyed their experience writing for Helium. Helium does offer versatility--if you like contests and other offerings. If you submit articles to Helium, be aware that if you later want to withdraw them, you can't. This can be prohibitive. As well, unless you maintain a star, you won't get paid.

Recap: Articles submitted to Helium cannot be removed. Articles are not evaluated by editors.

Make Money Writing: Suite 101 * * * * *

If you are a published writer, You can join the Suite 101 network and receive a direct share of ad. revenue. You write for approximately 400 topics and 3000 categories. If you can produce at least 10 articles over 3 months, this may be a good fit for you. You also receive editorial review and gain access to comprehensive tutorials on writing for the Web.

  • You have to be a published writer to make the cut with Suite 101

  • The more articles you produce, the higher the potential earnings

Recap: Suite 101 offers ongoing article earnings and instruction on how to create online articles. Suite is one of the better writing opportunities and you can make money writing by joining the Suite team of writers.

If you are serious and want to earn money writing, these writing opportunities may be a viable stepping stone that helps you to reach your goal of getting paid for your writing.

Get started and make money writing by joining these four legitimate sites that pay their writers.

You can create a page like this and earn ongoing royalties. Please share your ideas and knowledge with the rest of us.

Athlyn! I think it's a great HUB. I'm a little sceptical about making money on Helium though. I'm at the moment the proud owner of a 32cent account. A bit too little for the many hour one can spend writing articles. I know maybe a few people make it there but???

I will definitely check out the other sites though. Thanks for the info.

great HUB

Hi Zsuzsy Bee,

I prefer Triond over Helium--although I've heard that some have had great success with it in advancing their writing careers. I like sites where you can incorporate links in your articles so they do double-duty, as it were. While Helium allows you to link to 3 sites in your profile, you don't have the same level of flexibility. With Triond you receive monthly earnings and a hot tag cloud is included at the site, which I'm now using when I create articles.

I find that each opportunity has elements I like and other elements that I woul dlike to see.

Hi Tim,

So far, I'm pleased with PrintNPost. This has been generating me nice Adsense earnings.

I'm generating revenue from Suite 101 but this one takes longer to build; however, I believe over the long term it will pay off. I really like the mentoring at Suite 101. Writers are aided to write articles suitable for an Internet audience and the brush up in Web writing skills is worthwhile in today's writing market. With Suite 101 you earn and learn at the same time.

Thanks for this generous article.  I appreciate all the links, and the specific comments on the various sites.

What someone considers a good income from a project is such a subjective thing.  I'd be interested in seeing specifics.  From other articles and comments on this topic, I get the impression that the Adsense revenue and all the affiliate opportunities that get so much hype amount to very little actual income. Particularly if one stops to consider the amount of writing time involved to generate those pennies for clicks, or $1-$2 per 400 word article.  Again, this is a subjective thing.  If someone is happy spending numerous hours writing articles and getting pennies from clicks, ok.

I'm not expecting you to post your own specifics; however, if you've seen any any more detailed information on actual earnings, I'd be interested in links to it. I'm glad you included so many freelancing sites. Thanks for the great hub!  Best, Trent

Hello, Hikeguy,

It's always so interesting because each person will a different experience. For example, I know of one Triond writer who makes 200.00 + per month. is this the norm? probably not. is it a good income? No. However, when you consider that the writer is making this each month, you start to see how revenue share opps can be lucrative.

I have often mentioned at my writing blog that 1.00-2.00 per article is an insult. Good writers can make far more. The key is in finding a particular groove that works for you. This is subjective because each person is different.

The same applies to AdSense. Some people will do quite well, others won't.

When you are writing, it's a good rule of thumb to work a number of opportunities and create ongoing multiple income streams. that way, your efforts pay off.

r those writers who are dedicated and willing to invest the time, income levels grow over time.

Some Stats

* A number of my articles over at Triond have exceeded the 20.00 mark and continue to earn for me.

* Printnpost is a good little earner, depending on how much you want to invest in time.

* My Adense continues to grow each month--and we aren't talking pennies either.

* I love writing for Suite 101

* My blogs have become profitable and allow me to earn in multiple ways.

* Paid reviews are very lucrative

* Affiliate earnings are one of the easiest ways to make ready cash

Athlyn,

Thanks so much for your response to my questions.  I enjoyed your comments on Marisa Wright's hub about Helium, and was glad to see you sharing your experiences here.

You make an excellent point about working multiple income streams.  I'll check out Triond and Printnpost.  It helps a lot to hear about someone's actual experience.  You've done a great job of introducing opportunities.

Years ago my business consultant advised me (at the outset of any venture), "First do the math."  I'm finding it difficult to evaluate online opportunities as there are so many variables.  (While it's possible to research keywords, trends, watch for hot topics, etc, there's no crystal ball for how much traffic any one article will get). I'm completely new to the affiliate business and Adsense, and the residuals. If it works out that articles continue to make money month after month, that could make it worthwhile.

Your comments and post have been a terrific help -- thank you!  Best, Trent

Hi Athlyn,

You noted that with PrintNPost you can link to your other articles, but that this isn't the case with other publishers. Yikes, I didn't realize that. Do you know what the rule is for Blogger (blogspot).

Thanks!
