A keepsake that will become a family heirloom. Most people want their wedding customized to their tastes. Design is chosen based on tastes and symbolic meaning, and those who attend the wedding are able to learn about the couple through what they experience.

From food selection to the vow selection, the details can be overwhelming. Hey, at least it only happens once a lifetime. Right? Well maybe it isn't your first, but here's an idea for a first no matter if this is your first wedding or you last. Write your own wedding song.

Why write your own wedding song? If you write your own, yours will be unique. Your song lyics will be your story. No one else will be able to have their first dance to it. Your guests will be amazed by how well it fits you as a couple, and you will learn more about your partner as you write it. Writing your own wedding song may sound like an impossibility, but with some simple instructions your challenge will get easier. Hopefully one of you has some experience writing poetry orlyrics, but if not this is a good time to start. You are going to learn things together from now on anyway, right?

Here's the simple directions for writing your own song. Start by answering the questions I have included in this hub. These will give you direction about what to write into your lyrics, what style you want, etc. If you are going to premarital counseling, which I suggest, many of these things will come up. The questions are aimed at giving you sensory data, identifying your values, beliefs, and goals, and your musical preferences. If you both like different types of music, then your song may end up being some kind of cool blend of styles, symbolizing your cool blend of personalities.

O.K. now that you have answered these questions it is time to start writing your song. Starting can sometimes be the most difficult part. I suggest starting with some sensory data. In other words set the stage for your lyrics. Don't rely only on visual data. Use hearing, touch, taste, smell, balance, kinesthesia, and emotions. Your wedding song should have the power to take you somewhere, and it will become your anniversary song as soon as people bid you farewell from the reception. Make it meaningful for you.

If you write music yourself. Write your own music. If you aren't musically inclined, You can get someone else to put your lyrics to music. I suggest getting someone you know to put your song in music form. You should pay them something, but maybe you are already thinking of having them perform at your wedding ceremony anyway. This would work great. Getting someone to perform it makes it even more meaningful.
