What? How?

So you want to earn some additional income or maybe just want to work from home. Many people use writing in various ways to earn income. I'll be discussing how you can use the internet to accomplish this goal.

This article will reference Google Adsense and related items, for more information, please refer to my article Making Money - The Beginnings With Adsense and Hubpages. Reading that article should give you a basic understanding of using Adsense to make some income. This article will focus more on what to write and how to do it.

What

Maybe you aren't Stephen King or J.R.R. Tolkien, that doesn't mean you can't author a piece of work that could earn you some money. Make a list of things you know about and a list of things you like. In theory, there should be at least one thing on both lists. You have to have at least some knowledge of what you are writing or most people will notice and won't read your work, but for the general public we aren't motivated to deal with something we don't enjoy, so if you love it and know it, it's probably a good topic for you.

Even without a diverse writing background, you should be able to take some information you know and put it into a story. Not everyone needs a boring documentary style piece in order to get information. Describe different events you have encountered with the item you've chosen. Success stories are popular as people like to know how well something can work. Troubles are often a useful bit of information to make available so readers know what not to do or how to fix the problem. Write a variety of short stories, how-to articles, or other related information. Your computer should come with MS Word, so if you don't know any better yourself, just use it's advice on correcting your spelling and grammar. If you still aren't certain have a friend or family member read of your works (it's especially beneficial if they also know or like your topic), revise and now you are ready to start using your writing.

How

Take your writings and start applying them to a website you have created or to a blogging site like Hubpages. Again, you can refer to my article on using Adsense and Hubpages. Another great resource is Writers Weekly. They have a lot of useful information and articles on writing and how to get paid doing it. Including lists of paying sites and magazines. For those who are more experienced or devoted to writing, a good idea would be to partner up with a friend or colleague who is familiar with Google Adsense, the internet, blogging, or specifically web design. That way you can work doing what you know (writing) and he/she can apply his trade knowledge of computers. This naturally works the other way around. If you have computers and internet/design related expertise, then find a partner with adequate writing skills and make magic happen.

Once you get a little writing experience under your belt, a little exposure on the internet, and therefore some references or "previous writing experience" to list, you can (if you want) take the step to more profitable (but more effort filled) writing ventures. I'll get into that at a later date.
