Write for Pleasure first- Money and profit will follow
65Whatever you do in life, try to make sure you enjoy it. Writing is no different. I believe, it could show through your writing, if you do not like the subject. Not in the professional writer's position, but for the beginner it is important to choose subjects close to your heart. Things that interest you or that you love doing.
Whatever you write, it must all start with a good beginning, middle, and end with something your reader will not forget. Give your reader something to think or ponder on when they finish reading your article or story. I know that is easier said than done.

Finding topics to write
Write something you know. Now you can laugh if you like, but I am writing this in between customers. Yes, I am having a very poor Garage Sale today. It has been raining most of the day; hence, no one wants to step outside. So here, I am sitting inside writing this. There you go: write an article on "How to run a successful Garage Sale". Anyone could beat what I am doing, that is for sure.
Write an article or make up a fictional story about something you believe, needs telling. Then create the characters specifically, to deliver this message. They need to be convincing, credible, honest, or criminal depending on the story you are creating.
Put yourself in their shoes. Try to imagine a vagrant living on the streets. What would they wear, do not dress them in good clothes, nor give them an educated speech, unless you have a specific purpose to mislead your readers for a reason.
Every writer will have a problem with writers block, at one stage in his or her writing career, even the professional. If you have trouble with it, do not stress. Go out for the day. Enjoy yourself, although while out, look at the people around you. Listen to their conversations on the bus or in the shops. You will be surprised, just what that little snippet of conversation you hear may trigger, giving you the idea for an article or story. Tips for finding ideas to write a story is not easy.
Notebook or journal
Never go anywhere, without your notebook. You never know when something will pop into your head. Never trust your memory, it will let you down when you least expect it.
Try to write something every day. It does not matter what it is. Just let your imagination run wild. This writing keeps your brain active; use it while you have it, because no one knows how long it will last.
Be persistent
Never let all those rejection slips deter you from your goal of becoming a writer. No one is perfect. You need to be persistent. Thousands of well know authors were rejected with books that have since sold millions of copies. Maybe, you too, will join that field of famous authors. Therefore, if you give up you will never find your true objective in life.
On the other hand, if an article is rejected, it may have a valid reason. Check the spelling; ask others to read it for you. Read it aloud.
Write it your way
Write the way you want to write. Learn to find your own style or techniques. Never write, things you are not comfortable writing. Be yourself, never copy another style if it feels wrong.
Develop your imagination
This is not as easy as it sounds. When writing an article, research every available aspect of it. Start with a different approach. What it can do for you, what adverse effect could this have on your well-being.
When creating a fictional story, you still have to look for a new angle or twist. To keep the reader's attention you have to create plots for them to follow, and then when they think they are safe throw them another twist to cause havoc. Keep them in suspense. Of course, we all know the hero wins in the end; just make life hard for them to succeed. Then again, you could give the reader two different endings.
Whatever you write throughout your lifetime, make sure you enjoy the whole process. Sure, things do not always end as you would like, but enjoy it just the same. Make the most of every opportunity.

writing is a good outlet of what we feel..think..or things we wanted to say...but sometimes it's boring to write...especially if it's a profession and you just can't think of any topic to write and you're rushing for a deadline...hahha...but that's a challenge...congrats for a great hub!
Gwyn, I know what u mean it is so hard sometimes tofind something to write about, although I dont have any deadlines as dont get paid for it. Challenges are great when you have them
Great hub Eileen w/ practical advise and I agree w/ all you've expressed....even calling Mr M a scalywag! You guys are too funny! Your last statement about 'never knowing how long you'll have it' is humorous and true....my biggest challenge is usually the imagination so thus why for me, writing about topics I know about or personal life experiences works best/ is easiest.
Love how you encourage others not to give up!
Thumbs up!
If you're simply writing for pleasure, you must check out a book called "Writing Articles About The World Around You". It's even a great book for making some money on the side. I still find inspiration in this book, years after I first read it.
Christine kv, Have to agree about own experiences, the just add a little bit of fiction, thats what I did with my s/story on my secret. I definitely didnt do any modelling thats for sure. Just made that all up. And yes he is a scallywag eh.
dabbling mum, thanks I will have to go find that. I dont write just for pleasure, but thats how it starts out. Then hope some money from adsense comes in to help get those extra litres of fuel for travelling. dreaming again. But we all have to dream. as long time dead. thanks for stopping by

Excellent advice.
I am a first class-first, a gold-medalist in Statistics Master of Science. I passed with distinction in English ie. I score more than 75 percent marks. Then a weekly magazine "the Commerce Weekly" published from Mumbai invited me to join them way back in 1970. It was Monday and the Chief of Research Bureau asked me to write an article on labour unrest in India within two hours based on latest statistics released by Govt. of India. It was my first professional attempt.
Believe I started sweating in the my air-conditioned cabin. I could not think of a single word. Forget the title, beginning, main idea and end. My boss Dr. NarottamShah who was a very well known author on Economics saw my pathetic condition. He called me into his cabin. Asked peon to get a glass of cold water for me. Then he took a rough pad and pencil. Showed me how to hold the pencil in right hand and place it on the the page. Then he asked me to take deep breathe. Now he showed me that he was only copying an article written by him in his mind. All articles are written in our minds first. Who writes them we really dont know. This was the great message given to me by my first boss. Since then I have written thousand of articles in newspaper the "Economic Times" and millions in my mind. You have to reject your articles then publishers dont reject.
About making money, I should have not earned more money. The extra- money which I did not need only spoiled.
Now I write because I love people not because I want to make money from them but because I want to see them happy.
khadikarprakash Thanks for reading my hub. Money is definitely not everything. But it helps when your vehicle breaks down major repairs costs heaps so thats when you need the cash. Thanks
Great hub Eileen. I remember when I first stumbled on Hubpages. I just want an avenue where I can write (my initial efforts in blogger.com I consider failures actually) and find people who appreciate my writing. I certainly found it here. The Adsense, Amazon earnings I consider all bonuses. Thanks for the tips. Thumbs up!
emievil, your welcome. Yes money is definitely a great bonus.
