Blog thoughts to keep in mind

Getting paid to write online on blogs

Oprah always says, “Figure out something that you love to do and figure out a way to get paid for it.” My passion, besides my teaching, is writing. Am I opposed to making money, of course not and I love watching my Google Adsense account accumulating money each day.

Now the facts: You hear about Google clicks or Google Adsense. You wonder, is it true, can you really get paid for writing blogs? The answer is yes it is. However, I must be candid. The money is slow in coming and it is not abundant for quite a long time.

The trick is to write what you know and what you love. Write because you love to write. Do not do it for the money. That is why so many people quit and do not make any money. The money will grow daily. The more blogs of interest you have, the more viewers you will have. It would be very difficult to write quality blogs in a few weeks. I have even deleted a few of my first blogs even though I was getting a few visitors. I do not understand how the scores are determined, but I found having poor blogs reduced my score.

You will also learn the tricks of the trade with Google clicks or Google Adsense slowly. It can be over-whelming and intimidating. I am still learning after four months. Be patient. People have been doing this for years. It’s like I tell my children, do not expect to have what people 20 years your senior have. They worked for what they have; they accumulated things over time. So, the same advice is true here, take it slow. If you are in need of a job, continue looking. Do this part time until the income comes your way. This is like anything else, you may make it big and you may not. I recently heard of a woman who has turned writing blogs into a family business. She developed a following for her writing. She wrote from her heart about being a mother that some are afraid to say out loud. Many young mothers needed to hear that their thoughts were not unusual and they shouldn’t feel like bad people for thinking them.

Think of writing like trying to break into acting in Hollywood or trying to become an NFL star. Even if you have talent, there is always someone who has more than you do. Even if you think you have a niche, someone else can come along with another idea that grabs the public’s attention. Again, write because you love to.

My personal philosophy is if I make thirty dollars a month, that is thirty dollars that I did not have. If in two years I am making two hundred dollars a month, that is two hundred dollars that I would not have had.

So don’t give up, continue writing and sharing your thoughts and talents. Others can learn from your experiences or your expertise.

Some tips to keep in mind

1. Don’t make it about yourself unless you are the most important person in your state (Disclosure: There are exceptions - one of my most popular blogs was about going to small claim's court)

2. The money comes from advertising. Advertisers must be willing to pay for the information on your blog

3. Write regularly – at least once a week – ideally once per day

4. Write about things that are funny or outrageous that will bring people to your blog; make it something that viewers cannot get elsewhere

5. You must promote your blogs through Facebook, Twitter, etc.

6. You may want to contact an advertiser and find out what they wish you to write about

7. Use key words to help promote your site - learn more through the Google Adsense site

8. Use linkbacks to help promote your site – learn more through the Google Adsense site

Gosh, it seems like a lot of effort, Trimar. But, as you say, it's probably easy for someone who enjoys writing! [:)]

Love the idea of figuring out something that one loves to do and then finding a way to get paid for it. Now I need to find an idyllic golf course that has a vacancy for someone to run their pro shop...

Good advise, I would write in journals for many years and still do. I like where you state write from your heart. Who knows it may help another person. Good hub thank-you for sharing it.
