Writing sites that pay for your articles
82choosing the right writing site that suits you
Which writing website pays off in writing for money?
This depends on your level of competence as a writer. I started writing again in March this year, after a long break of thirty years. First I wrote at Helium in March this year. I put up 13 articles and managed to get half of them with ratings over 85%. As my ratings were not consistently above average, I didn’t get any writing stars and hence missed out in the reward-a-thon. I also tried writing for their marketplace and contests. None of my articles was purchased. I was about to win one of the contests with a leading article before it got suspended, reason being the writing style was not appropriate to what the contest specified. How disappointing. When I checked last week, my total income was $0.13. The disappointment (not that the cash mattered that much) lead me to explore Triond and Associated Content (AC). However, reading the rules, I figured out Associated Content (AC) would also favored the more experienced writers and chose to leave this till later. I picked Triond and PrintNPost and started writing at these two sites four days ago. Now I have around 8 articles posted at Triond and four at PrintNPost. At Triond, my most popular article received over 500 clicks within one day (my children swore that they had nothing to do with it). My income so far? $1.19. I am expecting similar results with PrintNPost. I have also just started experimenting with Hubpages and shall update you with further posting in time. I think the differences in results lie in the following:
1. Rating kills.
At Helium, you have to be rated against other writers. You also have to rate articles if you want to stay in their “reward-a-thon” event. Rating takes time and leads you away from your writing efforts. It’s not easy to get back to it. Rating kills again when you try hard but still can’t get a good enough rating for you to get the “stars”. Rating demoralizes you before you hang in their long enough to see the rules work for you.
2. The minimum number of words is fixed at 350 or above.
This makes life difficult for beginners like myself who may adopt a conversational approach: we basically write as if we are chatting with someone in a casual conversation. We are more used to dialogues, stopping from time to time waiting for responses, rather long speeches during which we are supposed to keep going. It is hard to stay interesting after our points are made.
For the seasoned writer, getting a good rating should not be a problem as there are always more novice writers to push your ratings up from below you. The high ratings will put your articles in the top five lists of search results and get you read much more. The rich gets richer and the poor poorer. The requirement on number of words is relatively easy to fulfill when you have been at it for some time. In fact, you may find it impossible to write articles with words so few for your adsense key words.
Conclusion: Start with Triond, Hubpages and PrintNPost, the sites that put the novice on level ground with the skilled. When you have refined your skills, move on to sites that favor the experienced writers, like Helium and Associated Content, to cash in at the expense of the novice competitors.

I agree that associatedcontent is rather difficult for beginners
Triond is the best place to start writing. I found this site offers more freedom and flexibility compared to other writing sites.
Thanks, George, good luck with your writing.
www.printnpost.com rocks as far as the system they have going...once the traffic picks up..everyone should see some nice results.
"When you have refined your skills, move on to sites that favor the experienced writers, like Helium and Associated Content, to cash in at the expense of the novice competitors."
Nasty. I like it.
Dear Anti-Valentine,
thanks for commenting and reading the real me in between the lines. I am moved.
Hi benson!
thanks for writing a comment...I totally agree with you, I went to associated content and found it hard to begin with as I am still amateur at writing but trying my best though, I also visited HElium and felt also the same.
Hoping to read more of your hubs...
Thank you for this information as I will join both sites and I appreciate your research on them.:) I was on Helium as well and then I stumbled upon HubPages so now it is time to venture out. :)

Very nice and informative hub Benson. You've done some good research here, and I'm anxious to check out some of the places you've mentioned. I also hope to make time today to read the other hub you've referenced. But for the moment...I've had too much turkey. :)
Dear Pam,
thanks for commenting. Do check out the related article as it is actually an updated version of this one.
cheers.
Hi, Shafi,
thanks for the info.
Suite101 is also great but certainly not for novices.
Hi Mina,
thanks for commenting. I agree with your comment regarding suite 101.
cheers.
Benson, how'd I miss this hub of yours?
Nice reporting on the sites. I have no love for Helium, or for their rating system. Or for the fact that you can never get your articles off of their site. But other than that, they're good. :)
I have a few articles on PrintNPost. I've found their publishing platform a bit of a challenge at times, but I get a fair bit of traffic. I haven't posted anything for some time and I'm still getting some hits to my blogs and articles.
Good luck, hope it goes really well for you. Happy New Year!
hmm. Maybe it's time to branch out. Thanks!

Hi nancysoffice,
thanks for dropping by and commenting.
I was wondering where this article was long before I found it. Well I'm happy my greatest pal wrote it, keep it up brother
Hi Kneeyee Alex,
thanks for the very warm comment.
Best regards,
nice hub i am become your fan coz i want see your every new hub when you publish
I agree that Helium is very "stingy" with their payment. I earn a couple of cents each day. The only reason why i'm still writing on Helium is their Marketplace assignment. It took a long time to finally sell one. As of now, I've sold about 8 or 9. Still, it's rather teeth-pulling.
After reading a no. of hubs on what sites to write for. I started back up with Triond again. 1st day--97 hits (not close enough to your 300) but what a morale booster. I also begin exploring Associated Content. Will see how it goes.
As for hubpages, everyone is singing praises but I've yet to see any visible results. I'm not that savvy when it comes to the computer, so maybe that's why.
Hi anglnwu,
thanks for sharing your experience. Lately I'm experimenting with http://suite101.com and setting up a cluster of my own blogs like: http://doctorshealthtips.com
I'm doing these as experiments to learn more about online publishing and marketing.
May be you want to try something like these.
Best of luck.
Nice, I've heard of Suite 101. Let me know how it works out for u. I know they actually have tools to equip you as a writer and other gadgets like allowing you to design your business card as a writer.
I've yet to sign up, so let me know if you like it.
You can go to the site and apply to join as a writer. You'd have to submit a couple of samples. They do turn down some applicants if the samples appear too subjective or opinionated.
thanks for share. I am on the way now.nice hub
Thank you for sharing your findings with us. I've bookmarked your Hub for reference.
I've just started writing in the last couple of months, and I've made the wonderful discovery that I love it.
Hi ReMarkaBlogs,
Thanks for commenting & sharing your experience.
Great hub. I am writing for Helium and I got more than 900 articles there. That is the only site where I earned money. Thanks for sharing the article.
Hi masmasika
thanks for the comment. If you are making money on Helium, stick with it. However, one writer at suite101.com has recently made $5000 in one mone, on a much smaller number of articles than your 900. You might want to look side-ways.
regards,
thanks for this great info.. does suite101.com limit their writers to those located in the US only? how about those from asian countries?
Hi bizwebreviewer,
no. suite101.com doesn't limit their writers to US/Canadian residents. I am one of their Asian writers. I'm also aware of Indian writers and writers from other continents.
