48A Budding Freelance Writer
For the past few weeks (or over a month now), I have been hopping the internet world from one site to another hoping to get good or better and much more, the best information and useful ideas to create my own site as a freelance writer. The first week was a bit of a trial considering the numbers of websites I have browsed who promised fat pays in US dollars for simple type at home programs or easy data entry jobs, to name a few.
As a newcomer to the freelance world like me, these promises were like a dream and all I could do was grab my credit card and pay those discounted fees to join these teams of freelancers, doing typing at home jobs. Obviously my quest for information on freelance writing was set aside. I told myself, my freelance writing can wait. I could make use of my speed typing skills and earn a handsome fee for doing it.
The nights for me seemed endless as I was so excited to join these so-called thousand dollar earners and I was hoping to earn my first 1 thousand bucks by the end of the week. I couldn't wait to open my laptop even before grabbing myself a cup of coffee to check and explore those sites again. I read and read their so called methods and ways of earning money from home, I was redirected to pages after pages of methods and methods alone. By the end of the week, I was getting exhausted reading and visiting the websites' links to another websites, who to my disappointment, led me to the same lengthy lectures of methods and ways of earning money by typing at home. In short, there were only methods and no typing or data entry jobs to do.
OK, I know that I am to be blamed for the dilemma I've been through. I had all the tools to check the authenticity of these websites and I didn't use them. I was lured into these websites with a promise of lucrative income at home that I failed to realize that not all websites give us the right information nowadays. Yes, I must admit, I became the most recent victim of these website scams. I should have stick to the main reason of my website searching, to gain some freelance writing tips.
Oh well, I am just human and humans are bound to make mistakes a long the way. At least, I didn't dwell on these websites longer and on learning that these are just scams, I immediately contact each and every websites' support to get my fees refunded. Luckily, my joining fees were refunded from all the websites (yes, for those who have stumbled on these websites and paid to get in, you can get a refund) 3-4 days from the date of my request. There was even one support staff of the type from home website who took about a week to proceed with my request. This guy was convincing me with all his might to stay with the team, saying that it was perhaps too early for me to leave and he was even offering endless offers of discounts and promotions for additional tools to make money at home. But I learned my lesson well at a very early stage and there was no way I could be convinced so I was direct and polite at the same to time to the guy, (in fairness to this staff, he was just being professional and I knew he was just doing his job to make me stay) that I want out and I want my money back. 24 hours after that last e-mail, I have received a refund notification and I was back to hunting sites about freelance writing.
No, of course I was not traumatized by these scams. In fact, it gave me a better understanding how to detect scams on websites to prevent myself from being attracted again from these thousand dollar earning promises. One of the very interesting website I have visited (and spent hours with) is youtukan.com, this a very informative website where you can get lots and lots of tips about building your own website and earning money from them. The articles were very informative and the referrals for the best FREE web site hosting services were great (I am using it now by the way). I have also encountered a number of great websites for freelance writers like me, an example of a good freelance writing website I have joined and posted a number of my articles is helium.com. Helium.com is website where you could choose from a number of topics you want to write be it teen pregnancy, motherhood, interior designs, politics, etc.
My freelance writing journey has begun. Thanks to scam website for teaching me a lesson. I am sure that some people out there had truly made some money from your sites (I really hope so), and for those who have not visited or have not been invited to join these sites, consider yourself lucky and keep your money for for more useful purpose.
