Write Children's Books
58
So you want to be a writer? How exciting! There are many ways you can get your work out to the public. First of all, do not get frustrated if you are not picked up right away by a large publisher. Sometimes it take work to get yourself known before you get picked up. By the time you get yourself going you may not want to get picked up. You may want to continue on your own.
I have self published and have two books out there. My first book is a poetry book titled It's Just Simply Me, my little book of poems. The other book is a children's book containing four stories and it is titles Mama Groce's Bedtime Story Book.
The first thing you want to do is get your work copy wrote. This is a great way to protect your work. Next, you really need to look into puplishers. There are so many publishers out there and many charge you. Be sure you read all the details before jumping into anything. Get an attorney to look over it if you do not understand something.
It is important to me to hold ownership of my stories. When I self published I looked into several companies. Most companies have people to walk you through step by step of the publishing of your book. Publishing isn't done over night and can take weeks or even months to get your book available to the public. Do not get frustrated!
There are many ways to get your book noticed. Donating to your local library and schools not only puts your books into children's hands but also into the view of parents. You can also make your own bookmarks, calanders, website and business cards. Send in your stories (after copywrite) to magazines or even contact your local news and ask them to briefly cover it. Contact large companies such as Books A Million and the Anderson Co. Also, look into Scholastics. Remember, this is your business and you make it happen.
There are several writers that have inspired me just by reading their books to my children. One of our favorate books Silly Sally wrote by Audrey Wood. We love books we can laugh at together and that is one that gets us cracking up everytime!
Get out there and make your dreams come true. It is so rewarding to know you are inspiring others and are opening doors to the world of imagination to many children,
