Now you have a great hub with all info but its chalked with TOO much info for the average atttention span

If you're like me you started out writing winded and lengthily hubs but over several dozen articles/hubs learned to "tone it down" drastically. Took the advice of your peers and of those who read and liked your articles and chopped them down to basically just information, no ranting and segwaying, multiple personality hub disorder and so on.

But if you're like me you also probably ran into a whole new problem. Your hubs are still long, lengthily, but focused, concise and chalked full of fascination yet still over 32 pages long right?

Well their is hope and no it's not St. Helena.. We don't have to go that far as this is not a depressing problem but a hopeful one with lots of great potential.

The solution is simple and solves other problems I had and you may too.

Resolution

  1. Go back through those hubs and try to find where the concepts seem to break in half. For example my Web 2.0 hub has so much information on Web 2.0 that their are actually 4 different segments I could make on the information such as: Pop culture, Technology, The social angle, Negative side of the rock.
  2. When you find these segments copy them all to a word document and remove them surgically from the hub (do this with precision, adding sentences to "stitch up" the gaps you will be creating in the text. You can even sum up the paragraphs removed into one sentence then leave a spot to add a link to this new hub later! This gives them a reason to check out the other hub or gives them an out if they just don't care.
  3. use these fragments of the hub to reproduce each segment (in a separate word document of course) into as many hubs as you can without completely bleeding the hub dry..
  4. once you get the several new hubs written and the old hub is stitched up and healed of its removed lungs :) then we get to work.
  5. Don't create new "hubs" with these removed parts; use them as your link back system fuel. Go to sites like eHow, and bloggers sites that employ ping backs (sites that will if you link to them automatically link back to your hubs) and make sure to link back to your hubs!
  6. Continue to write the long but focused hubs keeping in mind that you will later go back and segment them down to several hubs. Try still to write them as one hub this keeps the content more focused even in the segmented pieces.
  7. Some people can just write several hubs but if you're like me you can only get it all out in one long but informative one. Of course you can just segment this before you make the hub in the first place but to me the process of making the hub helps me add and subtract things as I build it into the capsules. Usually before I publish it I get new ideas and so forth. If this is you then this is a viable and useful tip.

I'm getting there..  Just give me time...

I know how to fix my long hubs...

editing is not my strong suit as I read them I think "this all has to be in there or it's not whole". Truth is the whole hub does need to be there (just not in ONE hub/page).

My published versions are the focused down and concise version, but this doesn’t mean they cannot be fragmented(moved into several more focused hubs/segmented by type or angle of the information).

I get that they need to be shorter (this hub here was written to show you guys:

1. What I'm working on doing with my hubs and

2. How you too can do this to fuel your link backs...

I fully understand that patience and editing is key. I release them long like this so people can at least read them (those who don't mind a long hub) while I work on fixing them to shorter fragmented hubs linked together (grouping?)

It feels like a waste leaving them in "Unpublished" mode when they are actually publish and read ready (just long but not redundant or ranting, just long and in need of separating into "chapters" so to speak)..

I’m not really in the “lets make a lot of money” mode on my hubs yet, I’m in write them and get a bunch up there then go back and monetize, fragment and focus them.. you could say I’m in:

Stage 1:  write write write mode.. where as

Stage 4 is make money

Stage 3 is monetize

Stage 2 is edit and focus.

I’m even writing a hub based on ALL your advice both in the forum (when I was allowed in there to interact :) although I can go in there I can’t post) and from my hub comments.. Things I’m learning and what I’ve consolidated from all your hubs on how to write and monetize a hub
(unfortunately this too is a long hub lol its hard to focus down this much information.

So far I’ve separated this into two hubs, one for the how to, one for the psychological aspect to hubing (which I have yet to find a single hub on this.. so I’m filling the gap with this “The Psychology of Hub page writing as a career”. I also realize that. Segmenting/fragmenting a long hub into several smaller focused hubs is good for google ranking.. So I'm all for this really, just takes time and I keep getting new ideas for great hubs so I make them as they come..

I have all the time in the world to fix them, so long as I make them..
I was always told at first to just write write write and so thats what I'm doing.. I'm only 2 months old on this site so I concider myself in stage one still.. Stage two will come when I breach the 50 hub marker I set for myself :)

I am listening to you guys just give me some time to make the necessary edits.. I'm also working on all these monetizing learning curves.. its a lot to do.. But I don't want to lose great hubs that are in my head because I just brush them off while I do other things so I write to get them on here then later edit them down..

If you don’t like em long I’m sorry you wont read them. You can return later when their more to your liking (shorter and focused and linked together into several hubs) personally I like reading long winded and information packed hubs but to each their own.. The majority I know doesn’t so I’ll compromise by making the long hubs into 4+ hubs.. thank you all for your comments, I love the feedback..

I am not thin skinned or get offended easily (contrary to the forums’s posts lol… long story) so tell it like it is, lay it on thick I can take it..

happy hubing!

I write too much humor to break some of them in half. I guess I have to hope to find a base of people who like to read (an assuming my hubs are worthy of it, obviously), or else I need to try to tackle simpler ideas. This is a thought provoking hub for me, who has only been here for a little over a week.
