Wysong Beef Au Jus 95% Meat Canine/Feline Canned - Healthy Pet Foods? Pet Food Danger Gauge
68Pet Food Danger Gauge - 96% Safe (Probably Safe For Pets)
The use of animal plasma makes me nervous. Why is Wysong adding plasma to our pet's diets? Is this a poor attempt to fool the public into thinking there is more protein in the diet?
Blood plasma is the liquid component of blood, in which the blood cells are suspended. It makes up about 55% of total blood volume. It is composed of mostly water (90% by volume), and contains dissolved proteins, glucose, mineral ions, hormones, carbon dioxide (plasma being the main medium for excretory product transportation), as well as the actual blood cells. Blood plasma is prepared simply by spinning a tube of fresh blood in a centrifuge until the blood cells fall to the bottom of the tube.
Guar gum - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - is a water-soluble fiber that acts as a bulk forming laxative, and as such, it is claimed to be effective in promoting regular bowel movements and relieve constipation and chronic related functional bowel ailments; such as diverticulosis, Crohn's disease, colitis and irritable bowel syndrome, among others. Use: to thicken and stabilize processed foods.
This product is made by Menu Foods.
This product held up well to the Pet Food Danger Gauge but I can't help but wonder - how good is a bite of beef with "animal" plasma dressing and a side of laxative can be for our pets.

Leslie,
Dr. Wysong is supposed to be the one behind the vegan recipes and many others which the company has been named after Dr. Wysong. Dr. Wysong claims to have done a load of work in the area of pet foods and trying to get healthy pet foods approved by the different agencies involved in this pet food approval process.
Right now the pet food approval folks say that if one product looks like another product or has ingredients which have been approved a pet food producer can produce the pet foods without any further approval.
Does this mean that the good ingredients in a healthy pet food have never been approved? hmmm????
Susan
I just can't get behind any so called expert that would claim and actually produce a vegan food for cats and dogs. The "Dr" should know that it is unhealthy to feed this type of diet to a obligate carnivore.
All of the vegans I know that have pets know this fact and don't have a problem with feeding their pets meat. I think this type of food is going to appeal to vegans who aren't familar with their pets requirements. They see this being sold and assume it's safe. After all it wouldn't be on the shelves for sale if it weren't safe, right?(saying this as I roll my eyes). After all it is created by a doctor!
(Not sure how I turned on a bold font but I can't turn it off)
Hi, I read Dr. Wysongs "The truth about pet foods" years ago and it was an eye opening book about the wrongs of current pet foods. It was published years before the recalls ever took place, and was a warning to health issues on pets put on ANY kind of kibble or canned food fed as a sole diet. Basicaly it states that cooked foods do not have all the nutrients essential for felines and canines that a RAW diet will provide. The sorce of food should be what an animal would eat if it was in the wild. The best alternative being RAW. Which I whole heartedly agree. Wysong's food was designed to be paired with a raw diet and NOT fed singularly. So how exactly did this food get bad ratings? I am a little baffled since the food is only ment to be 10% of a pets diet? No explanation is given to how this food was scored. Please specifiy.

Ann told me about this one. It isn't the type of plasma you would think for the type of meat used. Write(email)the company and ask about the plasma and you will see. I don't care what their reason is just like Susan said it makes me uncomfortable. Without that it looks like it would be an ok product. Why can't just one pet food company get it right? Is it that difficult!
I get so mad at this company and others. They make themselves seem like such experts. Experts HA! A company that makes a VEGAN/Vegetarian food for dogs and cats and tries to pass that off as safe and healthy for a Carnivore! No experts I trust!!
