Xbox 360 Red Rings Of death Fix (with pictures)
68Many People have Had this problem with the Xbox360 I've Had this happen to me on 3 Xbox360's!. But I'm going to talk about how to fix this problem. It works most of the time but i've come across 2 where it worked for alittle while but not for long. The problem is the heat over the GPU (graphics Processing Unit) When the Xbox360 get hot the Heat sink will lift of the GPU creating the RROD (Red Rings of Death). The Fix is Not that hard.
!!Big thing before you start do not open your Xbox if it's still under warranty, if so send it back to Microsoft and have them deal with it!!!
The GPU Heat sink is on the left you will need to remove it by taking off the X-Clamp on the other side.
Once you get the Heat Sink off the bottom should look like this, you want to remove the Screws will a pliers.
The Screws you removed look like this. You want to get normal screws that are about the same length as these and 8 thin nylon washers. Pictured below.
Now I've seen Site that charge $10-$20 for the Screws and washers but you can get them at your local hardware store for less then $2. Just bring in the ones from the xbox and tell them you need normal ones at the same length.
Last part is you put the New screws in with a washer on both sides of the Main board. Tighten each one a little bit in a clockwise motion until completely tight. After that you want to plug in the power and Video cords no the fans or anything else. Turn the xbox on for about 20-25 mins. after that turn it off by unplugging the power cord. Let it sit for 30 mins, put the system back together and your done! you xbox360 should be working again. If you have any questions leave me a message I'll be happy to help.
