The eternal gamer debate, which console is the best? Xbox vs Playstation!

Everyone obviously has their favorite, depending on which one you bought first or which console is exclusive to your favorite games. Another reason why it is so hard to get a straight answer is that both consoles have their pros and cons.

The PlayStation 3 is the king of the features, there's no arguing about that. You can like the Xbox 360 and Microsoft as much as you want, the PS3 is still far ahead. Built-in Wi-Fi and Blu-Ray, bluetooth makes it very customizable with third party devices and you can even store media, while the 360 can only stream.

On the other hand, Xbox Live is far superior to Playstation Network. Yes, PS Netowrk is free but the 50$ fee for one year subscription to Xbox Live is definately worth it. Both services have a friend list but the PlayStation doesn't support this feature in game. XBL has the very popular achievements and gamerscore, which the PS3 doesn't have. I guess it depends if you're a casual gamer or a hardcore one, PS Network is still very enjoyable, despite being inferior to Xbox Live. You get what you pay for.

Microsoft used to have the edge in the games category, both in terms of quantity and quality but since a few years have passed, SONY had time to catch up. In 2008 alone, MS released a few more games but when we compare the best rated titles of each console, it seems pretty even. The 360 has games like Halo and Gears of War but the PS3 has Metal Gear Solid and Killzone 2 to name a few.

As I was saying, each console "owns" certain categories which makes it hard to deliberate whether the Xbox or the Playstation is better. I tried gathering as much informations as I could and help answering this question on my blog. I am also reviewing some of the most popular games for the 360 and the PS3

I personally think that neither is best. You need to know what you're looking for and study both consoles before to make your decision. Why would you buy the one with the most powerful GPU when your main interest is to watch DVDs? Make sure that you know which one excels on which areas and you will be able to take a wise decision.

I added a video below this post comparing the graphics between the PS3 and the Xbox. You will probably notice which one looks better, the 360 seems to always have the edge when comparing the same game on both consoles. Don't let one video convince you though, it's on console exclusive titles that the PS3 shines.
