In a year when the iphone toppled the charts and the new Blackberry Smartphones came out in time to rule the Christmas market, Sony Ericcson released the xperia x1 which technology wise is the best release in the Smartphone market to date.

The xperia x1 comes equipped with an outstanding photo resolution that dwarfs the iphones little capabilties as well as an outstanding RAM and memory all in its weightless slim lined body.  Even better, the xperia x1 has a full qwerty keyboard, something both the android g1 and the iphone are missing.

As an added bonus, the xperia x1 is slick, comes with games, has a video camera, usb cord, utilizes WE with windows mobile (score for everyone who is not a MAC user!) and has a very fast processing time.  With the xperia x1 drag time is not something you have to worry about.  oh, and did I mention this slide phone looks remarkably more like a flip phone than its bulky siblings on the smartphone market?

So why don't you know about the xperia x1 yet?  Well, too put it short, the people in the Sony marketing department need replaced.  The xperia x1 sadly was delayed continously for about two years, so all the previous excitement had quieted down substaintially by the time of its release in the US shortly after Christmas.  While this means that you will not experience user flaws like Apple is famous for leaving consumers with, it also means that the few people who did care had all but given up hope.

now that you can purchase the xperia, it is only available at Sony Style stores and has not been picked up by any major carriers so you have to pay full price for the unlocked version.  It is almost as if Sony Ericcson wanted the release of the phone to bomb, because you could not try any harder to make it do so!  Yet, if you want a great Smartphone, and have the big bucks, you will never experience any thing like this hand held demon that could have stolen the mobile market if given a shot.

The developers remind me of the little engine that could, but only tried and failed.  The phone is remarkable, innovative, and stands out among all others, but yet no one will ever know.  Its a sad day when technology dies at the hand of pr, but that folks is exactly what happened.
