Yahoo Web Hosting sucks

Yahoo Web hosting - what do you get when you mix 2 parts web hosting and three parts 800-lb gorilla? That's right - you get web hosting that isn't worth bananas. That's yahoo web hosting for ya!

I hope you liked that, i made it up myself!

The point, with a search engine and company as large and dominant (well-sort of...you've got google now) as yahoo is on the internet, you would expect it's products to be original, well-developed, and most importantly, user friendly!

In research web hosts, specifically yahoo hosting, the biggest complaint I kept coming across was their terrible customer service. I just don't understand how a big company like yahoo, that makes its money almost entire from the good graces of people, can't hire a few good customer service reps. It just boggles my mind.

Additionally, they charge a premium for their service. At 12 bucks a month, they're quite a bit more expensive than most web hosts out there.

Myself, i'd go with google instead of yahoo for web hosting.

Thanks for the great hub jackmoney. i use site build it as THE way to go go go. they are going to help you build it right from the get go and believe me, it's worth every cent to get the support than to rebuild everything you did WRONG. for one, no traffic and you are a speck of sand on a mile of beach on a deserted island!! so why bother. For everyone that wants SOMEONE to read their stuff, you need search engine optimization (SEO) tactics that get you on the engines so people can find your little place in space. Go to my pages http://www.netrageouz.net/toolbox.htm and see the dozens and dozens of resources that I have prepared for anyone that's ready to set up a sweet spot in the virtual universe. Great hub!!

I can't even begin to tell you what a horrible nightmare Yahoo web hosting is. I have had every single problem you could ever imagine with this "WE DONT CARE" company.

God forbid you run a PHP based message board like I do. I really wish I would have done my homework before picking them as my host. It was the unlimited storage and bandwidth that struck my eye. Then I found out that's not even true!

If you like "500 internal server error" messages 400 times a day, this is the company for you. A couple of things real quick. My site has been up and down for a few months. Yahoo finally admitted it was a latency issue with their database servers and their front end hosting servers. Of course there was no ETA, and I was hungup on multible times because I wanted either my money back or to speak to a manger. Second, Their PHP and MySQL versions dont match. So when you log into your control panel it states just that! It even says that a script needs to be ran by the administrator to help resolve the issue. That means that the engineers at Yahoo have to run it. Gues what? They wont! They said that they have no plans to fix it either. One guy at Yahoo called it a cosmetic problem. So when I asked him why every single tool was missing, he said that they don't support the databases. Yet, thats what I am paying for. I paid extra money for a premium package to host a high traffic board.

So now I have two issues. I cant move the site to a new hosting company because the database contains an error that needs to be fixed in order to upload to a new site "TESTED", and Yahoo made it clear that they may or may not let me move the URL!!!!!! Thats right, they are hijacking it to make me stay!!!! Ofcourse other companies I have dealt with takes between 10 minutes to 24 hours to move a URL, Yahoo said it could be 2 weeks or more if they will at all!! I own the URL. 2 weeks would kill me.

In short. Avoid Yahoo at all costs. Go online and read all the horror stories for yourself. I filed a complaint with the BBB. Wish me luck!

I just got charged 35$ for an AUTOMATIC domain name (not hosting) renewal - that you couldn't opt out of when you purchased the original domain name. If that's not some shady scam, I don't know what is. They deserve to fall apart with those sorts of business practices!!
