Begun by Torakusu Yamaha in 1887. The son of a Samurai warrior, Yamaha trained to be a watchmaker. Due to his mechanical knowledge he was called out to repair a small organ at a local school. He was, however, so taken aback by the workings of the instrument that he decided to build one himself. When it was completely finished, he travelled with the instrument on his back to Tokyo (a complete trip of around 250 miles) for the opinions of a music professor there. Thus, the Yamaha music company was born. What an exiting story! If only the creation of Steinway or Bluthner was as interesting! Of course, they probably wouldnt have carried a piano on their back 250 miles anyway!

Yamaha now manufacture an extensive range of Pianos, Keyboards, Guitars, Wind Instruments, Electronic Music Equiptment, and ..... Motocycles. Their range is regarded by many to be the finest available, and are played extensively by many top concert performers. Their electrionic 'Clavinova' range has reccieved particular acclaim, and has sold an unbelievable number of models worldwide.
