Yankee Candles are not just candles made north of the Mason Dixon.  The name is given to the top selling candles in the United States today, created by the Yankee Candle Company.

Yankee Candle Company was actually started in the mid 1970s by a young man by the name of Michael Kittredge.  Only desiring to make a present for his mom, Kittredge ended up in the candle business when neighbors began asking him to make them the highly scented candles as well. By 1983 the company had grown and expanded and was moved from South Hadley, Mass. to South Deerfield, Mass.   Candles are profitable, and the company was sold in 1998 and went public in 1999.  With over 17,000 retailers carrying the candles in malls and small shops the future certainly looks bright for the company despite a difficult economy.

Black Friday came and went in the blink of a sleepy eye. At least for the dude. Although a night-shift worker, he wakes fairly early and often does his shopping in the morning.

This was a good one Marye. I liked the information you have presented here. I like the one with aroma. I mainly use it to brighten up my evening when I am in good mood. I have no specific reason to buy candles, it's all on mood. Thanks for the info
