63Yann Arthus Bertrand(1946 - ) is an international eminent French photographer, journalist, businessman and French environmentalist, member of the Academy of Fine Arts of France. He started with animal protection later found great interesting in aerial photography. Ami-images has published a collection of images of Yann Arthus-Bertrand in various forms: postcards, posters, calendars, greetings cards, etc...He has published more than 60 books of his scenery pictures in many places all over the world photographed from balloons and helicopters. Yann Arthus-Bertrand's photographs often appear on National Geographic magazine. He was granted the environment award by --Légion d'honneur.
Yann Arthus-Bertrand was born in a jeweler’s family in Paris France on March 13,1946. Her sister Catherine is one of his best co-workers. In his early age he showed a lot of interest in nature and animals. In 1963, aged 17, he became film assistant director and actor. In 1967, he gave up film and helped establish a nature reserve as animals center in France, in the animal park of Château de Saint-Augustin, Chateau-sur-Allier, Allier. He spent a few years on studying lions family’s behavior and published a photo book of lions in 1983.
He found a great passion on photography and on beautiful scenery from the sky. He became a photography journal reporter. With his camera he recorded his observations and awareness of opportunities from helicopters and balloons. In this way he communicates with the world. He took different kinds of pictures of nature, animals, and his aerial photography pictures have been published in Paris Match and Geography. He has also reported many adventure stories for international business, sports, contests. His report cover ten Paris-Dakar rally, the book of the tournament at Roland-Garros.
On 14 January 1986 he fortunately had given up taking the helicopter from Paris-Dakar. A few minutes later, all the passengers in the helicopter were killed by its crash.
In 1991, he established the Altitude Agency in Paris, the first press agency and the only picture library of aerial photography in the world (500 000 views from more than a hundred countries in 2008). Arthus-Bertrand held an exhibition in 2000. Which displayed 100,000 photographs he took in 76 countries.
In 1994, under the sponsorship of UNESCO, Yann Arthus-Bertrand received a very important task titled Earth from heaven. by supplying an inventory of the beauty of landscapes in the world from the sky, he started working on the state of the planet. "To witness the beauty of the world and try to protect the Earth" is the goal of the books The Earth from the Air and Earth from Above which can been visited at his official website: www.yannarthusbertrand.org This free exhibition - Earth from Above, presented in the open air, has since been seen in over 110 cities and nearly 120 million visitors.
Arthus-Bertrand injects political and aesthetic meanings to his works. One of his most notable photographs named Heart in Voh, New Caledonia, France has appeared on some of his book covers.
His series broadcast documentary named "Vu du Ciel" in France was issued in 2006, each episode of which was granted a different theme. In April 2007, Yann Arthus-Bertrand started making a feature film - "Boomerang" about the state of the planet and the challenge human race is facing. It is scheduled to release on June 5 2009 world widely; It is said that will be titled as "home".
On 1 July 2005, he created the international environmental association - GoodPlanet and implemented Action Carbon, a program of counteracting gas letting of greenhouse from the aerial photographs. On 31 May 2006, Yann Arthus-Bertrand received Legion of Honor. On 19 March 2008, Yann Arthus-Bertrand was awarded the Prix Georges-Pompidou. He inaugurated the Agricultural School of Radinghem On 29 March 2008.
