Antifungal drugs are usually prescribed to treat Thrush and yeast Infections. These drugs are available in the following forms:

Pessaries which are inserted into the vagina with an pplicator. These contain antifungal medicines such as clotrimazole, econazole, fenticonazole, or miconazole

Creams which are applied either to the vulva, or into the vagina

Tablets to be taken orally, such as fluconazole and itraconazole

Thrush in men is treated through the use of tablets and antifungal creams

Oral thrush is usually treated with antifungal lozenges

Natural Remedies

• Live natural yoghurt inserted into the vagina using a tampon

• Take probiotic supplements, such as acidophilus

• Apply aloe vera gel to the affected area, or drink diluted aloe vera juice, or take aloe vera supplements

• Add 1 drop of tea tree oil and 1 drop of lavender oil to a wet cotton wool ball. Apply to the affected area

• Wash with plain water only

Ways to avoid suffering from bouts of thrush

• Rinse underwear in plain hot water, use unscented detergents

• Do not use scented products when washing your body

• Cut down on sugar in your diet

• Wear underwear made only from natural fibres

• Avoid alcohol and steroids

• Women should wipe from front to back after going to the toilet

• Do not use spermicides or latex condoms, these can cause irritation.

• Uncircumsized men should wash under their foreskin daily
