Different vaginal infections have similar yeast infection symptoms. Whenever a woman experiences these for the first time, she is unsure on the proper diagnosis.

Therefore to not complicate things any further, it makes sense to consult a doctor after experiencing the yeast infection symptoms.

That being said, yeast infections are the results of an organism medically known as the Candida albicans. This virus is present in the vagina in small numbers and the woman experiences no symptom whatsoever.

However, whenever there are changes in their environment, they multiply and eventually grow beyond the woman's control. These can be manipulated by the intake of medications that are specially designed to eradicate the presence of the Candida organisms.

The treatment comes in a various forms - such as the vaginal creams and pills. Sometimes they must be taken in one dose for a period of one week. There are some treatments that are prescribed by doctors. Some can be purchased over the counter.

This brings us to our next question. How does a woman tell that she has yeast infection? A number of women associate this with the thick discharge that is similar to cottage cheese.

This is a conclusion from only 20% of women who actually experienced having yeast infections. If the Candida virus is indeed present, then the discharge has a starchy odor.

Sometimes, it does not even have odor at all. It can also vary from yellowish to white.

Not everyone gets the discharge that was mentioned in the previous paragraph. Therefore, the best and easiest way for the woman to determine that she has yeast infection is when her vagina itches.

The yeast infection symptoms she should watch out for is the itchiness around her vagina, sometimes in it. The itchiness is combined with a burning sensation. The vulva is swollen and red. It may burn and this makes it painful for the woman to urinate. Sex is also painful.

The best way to distinguish whether the burning sensation the woman feels whenever she urinates is a yeast infection system is to check how painful it is. There is a difference between this uncomfortable feeling as a yeast infection symptom and as a urinary tract infection.

If it is a yeast infection, the burning sensation is the result of the acidic urine that hits the irritated skin of the vulva. Therefore, the burning begins whenever the urine gets to the outside area of the vagina. If it is a urinary tract infection, the burning sensation is felt by the woman when it passes down the fallopian tube.

The general yeast infection symptoms vary from woman to woman. One may identify the infection with the consistency and the smell of the discharge. One may experience all the symptoms that definitely conclude the presence of a yeast infection. This case means that there is something serious going on in her system.

If the woman is feverish and experiences pelvic pain, then this means that she must go see her doctor as soon as possible so she can be properly diagnosed. It is also best that receives the medical care she deserves.
