You wake up every morning, eat breakfast, get the kids ready for their schools, get ready yourself and leave for work. You work all day long, drive back home, pick your kids and reach home. Weekends, you go for outings, grocery shopping. Do you ever sit and wonder what you might be doing may be contributing to the high waste of environmental resources? As has been warned by analysts and environmentalists again and again, we should try to retain the available resources, be those natural or artificial.
You too can take some important measures to save the earth. For example,
-
Stop Printing - The more paper you use while printing, the more trees will be cut to fulfill the demand for paper. You can reduce the usage of paper by using online resources. Use ebooks and read online, use notepad/word to write. Think of how much resources would be used in printing a book. Distribution, storage and shipping costs can add up to be huge.
-
Public Transport - Every city has public transport. It is way cheaper than what the gas would cost. Buses, subways would be used even if you do not take them. So, why drive a car parallel to the bus, and waste the same amount of fuel on the roads. Instead take the bus or subway.
-
Walk or cycle - Great way to keep yourself and your environment in shape. By the end of the day, you will feel wonderful.
-
Hybrid cars - If you do have to drive your car, make it a point to use a hybrid car. There are lots of models available now, and many deals come up every day by the dealers so that they can get the cars out of their stocks.
-
Multiple shopping rounds - You go to grocery store, buy groceries, spend some few hours there, and then drive back home. It is only after reaching home that you realize that you forgot to buy the stick of butter, or sugar. You drive back to the grocery store and buy that missing item. Ahh, now you can eat your dinner. But did you think that how much of the gas was used during your multiple rounds to the grocery store? Make it a point to make a list of grocery items you need to buy so that you do not forget anything.
-
Paper not plastic - If asked at the counter, paper or plastic, answer - paper! Using plastic can be hazardous for environment. Plastic takes forever to break down in landfills; they can be haunting the planet long after we tote home the groceries.
-
Buy/Sell Online - There are classifieds sites available which you can use to buy sell used items. You can use www.bay.ca for globally buying and selling. For local sites, check out http://www.khrido.com/used-ottawa.aspx and http://ottawa.kijiji.ca. You will find lots of local buyers and sellers in your area. You will get good bargain deals sometimes on branded or rarely used items. You can also sell your used items, and make some cash.
-
Telecommuting - Consider telecommuting to your work, if you can. If not, try to carpool with your friends and colleagues.
- Earth4Energy - You can also try extremely important tips here, where you will find easy step by step to create electricity at home. Follow the steps and manual described here: Create Electricity at Home
Please feel free to add your own tips on how we all can help keep this environment healthy and green. Remember, efforts we make today can make a great tomorrow.

Great ideas here kam. I recycle and use reusable items whenever possible. It isn't much in the big picture but like you I believe that if everyone does a bit it will be huge!
I do try to save as much energy as possible. Always turn off the lights while leaving the room, take recycle bags for grocery shopping, walk or bicycle to closer distances and keep in shape. These are few things we can teach our kids to follow. Next generation can do wonders if guided correctly. Appreciate your comments and thanks for stopping by.

Good stuff! The kind of advice here, other than the more obvious ones- can only be offered by one who obviously "practices what she preaches". For that, I have a lot of respect and can appreciate your efforts at spreading the word. Keep up the good work! Feel free to check out my hubs and become a fan if you get a chance.
