I'm sure you have seen the really bright mexican serape blankets used to decorate Mexican restaurants.  These are not the mexican blankets used as yoga mats.

Yoga blankets are the ones that are the traditional style mexican blanket as pictures to the right.  They are thick and provide cushion whereas the bright serape blankets are thin and are just for show.

Yoga blankets are a new trend that is starting to catch on everywhere.  People have realized that they either don't need a yoga mat or that yoga mats are dirty and they want to cover them up with their own blanket.

Mexican yoga blankets are great for yoga because of their thickness and how cheap they are.  They come in very large sizes and are fairly cheap compared to other blankets of the same thickness and quality.

When doing yoga you need to have padding so that your spine doesn't hurt on the hard floor during many different positions that you will be in.
