What's in a Name?

It’s not so much what’s in the name as what’s on the label.  The yoga consumer is fighting an uphill battle when forced to make a decision over the flavors, much less the brands of yogurt.  Do you like strawberry yogurt or plain yogurt?  Vanilla yogurt or soy yogurt?   Obviously, there’s just too much yogurt.

With the growing craze over beer and home beer brewing, it’s worth a note to mention the beauty of some of the beer labels and names that are currently available.  Yogurt labels?  Yogurt names?

Hazards of Yogurt

Yes, yogurt consumption carries certain risks.  A known health hazard of yogurt includes memory loss.  Ask my girlfriend.  She’ll set her cup of yogurt on a table or counter, only to turn around and ask “where’s my yogurt?”  That question is sometimes followed with “What did you do with my yogurt?”  You never have to ask a man where his beer is.  It’s either in his hand, sliding down his throat, or hanging around in his belly.

As mentioned at the opening, consuming yogurt often leaves the consumer craving for more.  This can actually lead to weight gain, a known opposite effect in the performance capabilities of yogurt consumption.  How many times have we all seen someone consume a cup of yogurt, only to follow that with a slice of chocolate cake?  This does not happen with beer consumption.  Have you ever seen anyone chase a beer with a slice of chocolate cake?  It will never happen.

Another known hazard is the waste of time involved in the dilemma associated in the decision making process between yogurt and real yogurt.  Even that sentence was a waste of time, simply, because we’re talking about yogurt.  Where does the purist draw the line?  How many times have we all been at the grocery store, watching in amusement, as someone tries to decide on nonfat yogurt versus light yogurt?  Low fat yogurt versus low carb yogurt?  Natural yogurt versus organic yogurt?  Obviously, yogurt business is big business.   Ask any beer purist and he will tell you, in no uncertain terms,  there is no such thing as light beer; thus no need to aimlessly wonder whether light tastes better.  It’s a known fact that bottled beer tastes better than canned beer.  Bottled yogurt?  Well, actually, you can get it in a jar.

On the long list of yogurt hazards we must also throw in waste.  Waste as in resources, money, and energy, in no particular order.  We’ve all seen it.  Returning from an out-of-town trip, opening the refrigerator door and spying that plastic container that begins with the dreaded “y” word.  What’s in there?  Leftovers?  This one’s a double whammy, for the only thing worse than two-week old leftovers in a plastic yogurt container is old growth yogurt.  The color of this growth is beyond description and is unknown to the modern color chart.  For a real health hazard, just try consuming that old growth probiotic yogurt.   Two things to remember about refrigerated beer: 1) an unopened bottle does not grow an indescribable object on top and  2) there are no leftovers.

We’ll wrap up this health warning focused on the mental and social stigmas associated with yogurt.  Yogurt does not a party animal make.  Yogurt is consumed within the privacy of four walls.  This can lead to feelings of isolation and low self esteem.  Have you ever been invited to a byoy (bring your own yogurt) party?  On the other hand, there’s not enough space here to write about the social benefits of a byob party.  Ever been to a yogurt tasting?  Ever been to a bar where you’ve got to decide on a yogurt?  We all know about the beer of the month.  What about the yogurt of the month?  How about "It’s Friday night, think i’ll go grab a yogurt?"

A Perfect Blend

In closing, for those suffering from this self-inflicted memory loss and over-consumption and wasted time and social deprivation and mind-boggling choices,  a beer flavored yogurt might help.

great hub... love your humor..

one thing yogurt and beer have in common:

you don't like either one the first time you taste it

but you start to like beer, you tolerate yogurt

hi elisabeth, thanks for checking in! yeah, that toleration thing... one of my dogs still won't drink beer, but leave a glass of wine or a margarita sitting around and it's history.
