Figure Drawing- No Talent Required...

Figure Drawing - Learning Not Restricted To A Single Person

What is so special about an artist that makes an artist so revered? Is an artist a born talent? Have they got eyes to view things differently that other people around the world cannot view? Is their judgment or perspective so different that their drawings leave people is such an awe of their work? And what we all would like to know is that can average people learn to figure draw & draw?

For a high percentage of people drawing is like a mystery. The mystery is that how do artists do the art of drawing. What is the gift that these artists have which permits them to figure draw with such ease while the common person might sit endlessly with a canvas and a brush and yet the canvas remains blank?

I'll give you a hint...it has to do with observation and how we see things. But more importantly it's about the wanting to learn and passion. Anyone can do it, they just have to want to do it. In fact I've now seen regular joes take on the task of figure drawing and accomplish great things incredibly fast.

Observation...Sounds Scary

You should consider that a few things could considerably improve your drawings. With strong will a person can be a skillful figure-drawing artist. Incase drawing is your routine hobby; a couple tips if inculcated shall help you develop your skills by leaps and bounds.

Primarily close observation of faces & people leads to perfect drawing. The capability to view & observe correctly is what will help you do a long way in improving you artistically. Have you been able to figure out the right outline of the actress's eye? Is the outline of the eye quite thin? Are her eyebrows dipping in the same manner? Is the positioning of her chin right where it should be? Have you drawn the neckline a bit to curvier? Is everything that you have drawn a true representation of what the actress looks like or have to missed something?

To be a good figure-drawing artist such observations must be precise. All that matters is how carefully to make the observation.

Now that I've scared you, there are simple steps that make observation and seeing correctly, simple as pie. You just need to want to see things correctly.

A few tips to get you on your way....

Drawing doesn't mean just scribbling with a pencil; it is more than that. There are a few difficulties that happen to be common for all artists while drawing having a pencil in hand. But fear can be an enemy, taking the help of a few superb tips can help anyone get through problematic areas.

Firstly, we can start with the tip that you should see the position of the way you put the pencil on the board. This way you know how the pencil is going to probably move when it shall be put on the paper. Ain't it sound easy? There can be vast improvements just by taking close note of how you position the pencil on the board.

Another suggestion from me is that you maintain your lines varied. Confused, well it means you can control the thickness or thinness (heaviness) of your line by exercising pressure upon the pencil or either permitting the pencil just to kiss the surface of the paper. You might now be thinking - 'is that all there is to it'. Yeah, sad but true, a large section of the artists just fail to imply this simple things. Adding or reducing weight upon the drawings could grant the drawing a new lease of life.

When you take up the task of shading, attempt to create a tiny circle motion, as it will lend to your drawing extra bit of texture. All the time shading from one side to another isn't the best thing to do.

When drawing having a pencil, is smudges an issue? You need a kneaded rubber. Such rubbers are the most effective when you need to get rid off small smudges at any place. Knead the rubber as so to have the needed shape in the form of a ball that has a pointed tip.

My last tip is - pencils should always be sharp! Surely at times as you happen to be an artist, a duller edge too is required but for that you can have a separate pencil. For the regular use there should be one pencil that is as sharp as a needle's tip.

Admittedly these a small tips but these shall prove to be huge tips when you start making use of them in your drawings. Once you apply them in your drawings the difference shall be eminent.
