You Don't Have to Be a Republican to Have a Prosperity Consciousness
53Theme Song From The Jeffersons
Bob Proctor and The Secret to Wealth
John McCain's Economy: We are Fundamentally Sound
John McCain and the Keating Five
Anybody remember the television show The Jefferson's? They were so happy that they finally got a piece of the pie? How big is the pie? Is there only one pie? Make no mistake about it, the Republicans operate on the principle that there is only one pie and they want as big a piece for themselves as they can get. Obama is looking to build prosperity from the ground up, acknowledging that a strong middle class is good for America. The Republicans try and scare everyone by calling this a Robin Hood kind of economics, socializing the economy. And while I admit, Americans get scared when they hear the word socialism, isn't that exactly what the Republicans are doing with the bailing out of AIG and Fannie and Freddie? And while they say that they are looking out for the little people, who is going to pay for this? You and Me. Even Republican Sen. Jim Bunning of Kentucky said that when he first heard about the bailout plan, "I thought I woke up in France. But no, it turns out socialism is alive and well in America."
What is a Prosperity Consciousness?
A prosperity consciousness describes our mental attitude about prosperity. When you have a prosperity consciousness you know that there is enough for all. Bob Proctor from The Secret says when "we're dealing with the infinite we can never take more than our share".
We now live in a global economy and that requires a new way of looking at the world and our place in it. There is so much opportunity for America to compete in the new economy and we need a leader who is going to help us get there. So many of our fellow citizens are afraid of this global economy, they fear their piece of the pie is shrinking till they are left with crumbs. That has been true because only the wealthy have benefited from the global economy but that is changing. But we can shift our thinking of how to get our own pie. America has the ability to lead the world in energy technology, the new frontier of the 21st century. The next President is poised to take us into new cooperative ways of working in the world. And for those of you who are scared, I understand but this is happening whether you want it to or not.
There is a clear choice in this election for us to make regarding our prosperity. You can vote for the party of Herbert Hoover, Bush and McCain or you can vote for the party of JFK, Clinton and Obama, the party of hope. Bush has become Herbert Hoover in drag. When Herbert Hoover took office, the country was living in a state of prosperity (remember when Bush took office and our surplus?) Hoover ran on the campaign slogan, "a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage." In the 2000 election, George W. Bush ran on the slogan,"a reformer with results" (doesn't that slogan sound familiar?)
Obamanomics vs McSame
Now we are faced with Obama and McSame, I mean McCain. With Obama, he wants to reduce taxes for the bulk of American families. If you are making under $250,000, your taxes will be less. In fact, if you are a senior making under $50,000 per year, you will not have to pay any tax at all. His strategy is routed in the belief that we are only as strong as our weakest link and that we need to grow the economy from the bottom up, not from the top down. Obama thinks there is more than one pie, that we all can share in the American dream. Obama has a prosperity consciousness.
McCain on the other hand wants to make the Bush tax cuts permanent. No matter how you slice it, McCain feels the fundamentals of the economy are strong, and would provide tax relief to his corporate, rich friends. Remember Ronald Reagan's trickle down economics? You know, if we can increase the wealth for the rich, some of that will "trickle" down to the middle class and the poor. That is not a prosperity consciousness. By the time it has trickled down, the pie is gone and you and I are arguing over crumbs. To me it is really "peed on economics". However, whichever way you call, trickle down or peed on, most economics agree that it leaves the middle class behind.
A Little History Please
What's happening with today's crisis is not unlike the Savings and Loan debacle in the 80's and 90's. And guess who got a bail out then, Director of Silverado Savings and Loan, Neil Bush (brother of George W. Bush). When Silverado collapsed in 1988, it cost the tax payers 1.3 billion. Oh yes, and to round out the story...that is John McCain makes an appearance in the Savings and Loan Bailout. McCain was part of the Keating 5. He was one of 5 senators who received campaign contributions from Charles Keating, of the Lincoln Savings and Loan. That bailout cost the taxpayers over $2 billion. McCain was formally rebuked by the Senate Ethics Committee for exercising poor judgment. He accepted gifts of travel and vacations to the Bahamas while he was a member of the House of Representatives. Hey, doesn't McCain's running mate have an ethics investigation going on in Alaska?
If 80% of Americans believe we need a change in this country, then the choice is clear. We have to vote for Obama. We have to vote our pocketbooks. It is time we do not vote against our economic self interest.

"Peed-on economics," hee! What a perfect name for it!
Thanks Marisue, I would love to join you there. I have appreciated your support and it is you who inspired me to start writing about the political process.
I still can't understand how Americans can be fooled by the rhetoric of the McCain-Palin team. As the song goes, I am praying, "we won't be fooled again."
If you get a chance to watch the video on the Savings and Loan debacle you will see how the same characters rear their ugly heads. McCain helping out Charles Keating, the Bush family. And also the video on McCain's very bad week....it shows his true colors (you only have to watch half of it...the rest is commentary on it).
Thanks for your comment kerryg....I appreciate it.
well Susan, you definitely have a knack for political commentary....I'd love to have you on Anamerican day !! will look for your registration when you have time...I missed the video...will view it now.
And, I don't understand why there isn't more talk about the Keeting Five -- it's a pretty nasty association for him!!!
I was very encouraged to see his drop in the poles...come on America, keep thinking. McCain will continue to fall everytime he opens his mouth. He just can't help it..he's so fuzzy on facts. This is our courageous leader?
Thanks....I think people are afraid of bringing the Keating 5 up because he only got off with a rebuke. However, it is a stain on his record. He has sold himself down the river to win this election at all costs.
I am anxiously looking forward to the debates next week. You know if the economy stays front and center, it is good for Obama but if we have any security issues before the election, it is good for McCain.
Hope you enjoy the videos. I think they are really good.
If Obama had a stain like that on his record, the repubs would be shouting from every corner of Wall Street!! grrrr, McCain has a huge record to defend...de-regulation, big tax breaks for the rich, no benefits for the vets, no renewable energy votes...Please!! Obama/Biden in November!! It can't come soon enough!
But Palin is hawt. You guys keep forgetting that. Sheesh. It's like you don't understand the American electorate.
Marisue you are so right. They distort his record on a good day, can you imagine? I just heard that McCain has 13 automobiles! And they are not all American. He is totally out of touch.
shadesbreath, you too are right. I forgot, we are engaging in cosmetic politics. Thanks for the reminder.

right shadesbreath, just what we need another hot VP, as if Cheney wasn't enough LOL lipstick, anyone? shade R E D?
AND McCain lied about his cars being American Made, too. This man cannot tell the T R U T H. McSame in the Membrane...as Keith Olbermann says!
Great hub! Thank you thank you. It amazes me how so many people equate Democrats with big spending and bad economics when the only ray of prosperity we've seen recently took place in the second half of the Clinton Administration. Republican prosperity is aimed at this idea that if you give corporations lots of breaks they will create more jobs and everybody wins, but we've seen the reverse is true. Middle management jobs have disappeared, the money has floated up, not trickled down, and the rest of us get jammed up in low-paid service sector work. I want to see everybody have a shot at prosperity again.
And yes, I'd like to see the Keating Five mentioned more often...or at all.
Do you think I could maybe make more money online if I started a website that sells cosmetics for barnyard creatures? I've been thinking, these pigs have to buy lipstick SOMEWHERE and I never see it in department stores.
Porcine Pink. Sooeee Scarlet. Frosted Pigglewiggle?
marisue and pgrundy, I think you are righ! There is money to be made with cosmetics. I like the barnyard creatures idea. I also think we should come out with a line for women, starting with a shade of lipstick called Pitbull and the other called Pig. I can see it now, one is a nice shade of brown and the other a soft pink.
What do you think? I am surprised there is not some entrepreneurial cosmetic firm out there looking to make a quick buck. We might as well cash in too.
I cannot believe there is not more talk about the Keating Five. McCain who is complaining about the liberal media is getting a free pass.
great idea!! I have a website I'm putting up called barntales.com - not quite ready yet...but a great place to sell make up for porkers!! LOL too funny!!! how about porkcupine Pink? CurlyTails CoverUp? Stinky Pinky? Squeelie Poo Goo?
Mush Blush? Cornball Gold?
I like Stinky Pinky! Mildly obscene--but in a good way!
This is another great hub! Apparently like you said, the remote idea of socialism frightens people, but there will always be a poor, middle, and upper class in every society even if it's not by conscious choice. There will always be people who won't have much either by choices they've made or circumstances they're in just like there will always be people that are satisfied with $25,000-$45,000 year. These are unavoidable outcomes, but I know it's in the best interest of the people to side with someone who has our best interest at heart and I don't see John McCain as that man.
marisueLove it.
Porkcupine pink sounds great. I like them all! Can't wait to see the site!
pgrundy: Stinky Pinky works for me!
talented_ink: I couldn't agree with you more. Bob Proctor from The Secret always says that it is just as easy to make $50,000/month as it is to make $50,000/year. The difference is that we don'/t have the vision to be able to bring that into consciousness. That is what developing a prosperity consciousness is all about.McCain is not the man with the vision to lead into the 21st century. He is tied to old ways of thinking. And he is not a man of peace. Thanks all for great info. Stay tuned. Hey maybe QVC might be interested in the Sarah Palin line.
This Hub and its comments are a true delight, Susan. Well organized, well-thought out, and parts of them are funnier than hell. Peed-on economics and cosmetic politics! Stinky pinky! These are juicy words and juicy concepts. Smart, observant, insightful thinkers and writers like you, Pam, Marisue, and a good handful of others here on HP are putting lots of pop in the political process and getting lots of people engaged. Thumbs up!
Thanks Sally for adding your voice. I always enjoy your comments.
thank you Sally, and we love your remarks!!

There are so many points to love on this article!! The above is just one that made me LMAO!!
Very well researched, summed up, and written Susan!! A million thumbs up and keep 'em coming. I learn from your points, and I think America can too.
if you go to my http://anamericanday.com, ranked google 3, (soon to be 4 I think) I would love to make you an author after you register!! That way, you'll have your own "dashboard" to publish your articles on, and they go to me for a quick "yes" (to keep just anything from getting on there -- ) and then they're on the first page!! You can also put a link and it is a "follow" link that will be to where you want. I'd love to have you!!
Thanks for such intelligent and wise contributions to the political debate. I'm proud to be on the same page with you in political beliefs!
As you point out, scandals are rampant in the McCain Palin or wait Palin/McCain ticket...why vote them in?? - we CAN'T afford them.
Talk about socialism, what do they call the now government "owned" banks with this bailout that we had to do because of their greed and McCain's "no regulations" -- which he's now FOR, after he was against.
The Republicans talk fast about how wrong it is to be helping the average American on the ground...
but barely blink to help the CEO's and Corporate thieves. Sickening!
