Recent excitement hits Perris, in the form of a tornado, in California of all places!

Tornados are not the norm in California, but on May 22, 2008 one touched down in Perris, California. I guess it can be added to the list of exciting things happening in Perris!

Riverside County, California

Located just between San Diego and Los Angeles in the beautiful confines of Riverside County, is the ever popular city of Perris, California. Offering miles of frontage on Interstate 215, it is a fast growing community with prime land available. Named after the chief engineer of the California Southern Railroad, Fred T. Perris, the city itself has a population of over 47,000 people. Perris also boasts as being the home of the original "Farmer Boys" restaurant chain.

Orange Empire Railway Museum

Located in Perris, California is the Orange Empire Railway Museum. This museum houses the largest collection of railway locomotives, passenger and freight cars, streetcars, interurban electric cars, buildings and other artifacts dating from the 1870 in the west.

It operates a museum railway where visitors can actually ride on the classic trolleys, passenger trains and other equipment of the railroad past. Special events like the "steam operations" running of a real steam engine, the annual Railroadiana Swap Meet, The Rail Festival, and Rods and Rails annual car and motorcycle show are held throughout the year.

Also available is The Birthday Caboose" a place where you can hold a private party or gathering. The museum is open 363 days a year, from 11am to 5pm., admission is free but there is a nominal fee to ride the trains. It is a great place to explore for very little cost.


Perris Valley Skydiving

While in Perris, why not go skydiving, because Perris is nicknamed "the skydiving capital of America."

Perris Valley Skydiving is California's only resort skydiving center offering skydiving to anyone from beginner to expert. A 95 foot tower which houses a wind tunnel chamber is situated at the center, allowing anyone to skydive, indoors. If you want to enroll in sky diving school this is also the place to go. Perris Valley Skydiving School offers the most modern and complete training program available. Jumping out of twin engine aircraft, you are able to reach your destination of 13,000 feet in as little as 20 minutes. For the expert skydiver virtually every opportunity is also available, with the possibility offered of participating in advanced jumps.

Perris Auto Speedway

If Skydiving is not your thing but you still love speed, the Perris Auto Speedway may be the place for you. This speedway is California's only ½ mile clay oval track, featuring action-packed dirt track racing "at its finest!" The dirt track runs all types of race cars, from blazing speeds of The Outlaws to the affordable Cruisers. Front grandstands offer seating with an easy view, while 60,000 watts of audio power offers easy listening even during races. The gates open at 4pm, with the racing beginning at 6:30pm every Saturday. Tickets must be purchased for admittance, but can be done in advance.


Lake Perris State Recreation Area

Finally, if you would just spend some leisurely time away from home, Perris offers the perfect spot with the Lake Perris State Recreation Area, or Lake Perris.

Lake Perris is a man made reservoir that was completed in 1973 that offers a variety of activities including, boating, swimming, camping, horseback riding, fishing picnicking, hiking, rock climbing and sailing. The weather is warm and the water is fine. There are camping facilities which allow overnight camping and day beach facilities that make spending the day on the beach more comfortable. The summer months can become quite crowded so go early!

Hey. I think I know the people who own or started Farmer Boy's Restaurant. Do you by chance know who it was? We lived in So. Ca most of our adult lives until 14 years ago when we moved to Texas. Why? Kids here.

We lived in Orange in Orange County, but our house wasn't orange. =)

I wasn't going to write about Paris, but then this hit me this morning so I decided to run with it. lol I guess my warped sense of humor has gotten the better of me at times. Perris California, is actuallly really not that exciting! lol
