Gardening for all!

We can all start container gardening and bring the enjoyment of living things into our lives, no matter how many floors high our apartment is.

Read this lens and I defy you not to become enthusiastic about this uniquely satisfying type of gardening!

You will be healthier too if you grow and eat your own fresh herbs and vegetables!

Container Gardening Advantages and Benefits

Container gardening is an extremely forgiving type of gardening. Container gardening is extremely popular at the moment, especially with younger folk who find that they do not have the time required to maintain a large garden. Gardening above the ground, is fast becoming the favorite way to garden with a lot of gardeners.

Generally you will find people living in apartments and condos without any lawn area are container gardeners. The genius of container gardening is making use of different containers to hold your plants. These work for flowers, herbs, and even for vegetables.

This type of gardening in pots and planters etc, is an ever-popular subject and exciting new books are available to show you how to do new things with plants such as creating stunning topiary in containers. It is becoming more and more popular since many vegetables will grow just as well in a confined area as in large plots and you can tend your plants in all weathers and throughout the year.

This really is an amazingly simple and quick way to garden, and since the plants are always in a type of container, they can be moved anywhere. It does not matter if you move - your garden goes with you!

Low Cost

Gardening with containers is inexpensive and easy for beginners. But, it is also a terrific way for experienced gardeners to expand their gardening horizons. Container gardening is a great way to decorate and make unique your house and any outdoor areas. Plant containers can be used anywhere, such as clay urns, metal pans, terracotta pots, wine tubs, wood boxes, bath tubs, glass bowls, wire baskets, sisal rope planters, etc.

Convenient

It is also very convenient, particularly for vegetables and herbs. Having fresh vegetables and herbs at your fingertips (possibly right next to you on a windowsill as you prepare a meal), is great when you want to cook with fresh ingredients. As we have already identified, one of the most rewarding types of gardening is growing your own herbs and, luckily, it is very common these days to see young potted herbs in the vegetable section of your local shop. Just buy, and care for these, for a continuous source of the fresh herb in the pot.

Low Maintenance

Container gardening is low maintenance - there's no lawn to mow for a start! You can grow anything from shrubs to even small trees.

Adaptable

Container gardening is adaptable and versatile . Practically all plants can be grown in a pot, box, can or jar - at least temporarily. A deck or patio covered with all sorts of containers of different sizes, shapes, and materials, is still an inspiring and delightful visual treat for you, your family, and your friends, even if all the plantings are not, in your estimation, perfect.

Gardening in pots and planters is a great way to make the most of the limited space you have - almost any space can be used provided that there is sufficient light for growth. If you live in a home with a tiny yard or even an apartment, it can be hard to find a place for a garden. Not so with a containerized garden!

Great for Apartment Dwellers

Gardening using containers is a great way for apartment dwellers to still be able to enjoy nature in a smaller setting. Novices to container gardening should keep a few basic tips, in mind, however to guarantee success.

Container gardening is affected by the climate zone where you live and the length of the summer, the same as conventional gardens. Indoor gardens are less affected by these factors; however they have their own set of factors, such as heat and humidity to ensure you kep within limits to suit the plants you choose.

Remember when the plant continues to grow that the root systems will need to expand usually in a downward growing into the soil. It's best to just fill the diameter of the container with plant. Remember, since you are not planting in the ground, moisture evaporates quickly. Be prepared to water container plants every day during the summer. Remember, if it holds dirt, you can plant something in it!

Conclusion

Flowers and plants are living, breathing things that add a vibrant aspect to living and working spaces. Indoor gardening can also fill in vacant holes in any decor by filling nooks and corners. Flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruit can also be grown in containers. Several varieties of herbs, including chives, basil, oregano, sage, parsley and thyme, can even be cultivated together in one container.

A great hub on container gardening. My mother is a big fan of this. We spent a lot of time a few weeks ago getting all the containers and setting up the trellaces. Will email her the link. Keep it up. Looking for more.

I guess with many of you folks moving into apartments, container might be something you all need to do. However, for us folks in Singapore, that have been living in "pigeon holes" for decades, we have already make container gardening a way of life, although I must say that even as I have live with it for years, still learn a number of things from this page -great page!
